After getting strapped into our harnesses and helmets, we follow our guide to the first platform, suspended high above the dripping rainforest. The shrieks of toucans and howler monkeys fill the humid air, a fitting soundtrack to our daring rainforest escape.
I grasp the zip line handle, my heart kicking into high gear both from the thrill of the ride ahead and the stunning woman beside me as we both get fastened in. The guy steps back, nodding that we’re good and I turn to Kat with a wild grin.
"You ready for this, darlin'?"
Her eyes spark with unrestrained excitement as she laughs. "Let's do it!"
Together we leap off the platform without hesitation, the wind roaring in our ears as the zip line hurtles us at breakneck speed over the dense jungle canopy. The treetops blur beneath us in a sea of green, our shouts of exhilaration drowned out by the sound of the wind and racing pulse.
We land safely at the next platform, breathless and pumped full of adrenaline. Kat's grin is brighter than the beaming sunshine overhead. "That was incredible!"
Seeing her so unrestrained and happy, cheeks endearingly flushed, I'm sorely tempted to pull her in for a dizzying victory kiss. To feel those sweet lips yielding under mine would surely be heaven. But I restrain myself for now. There’ll be plenty of time for that later once she’s glowing and thrumming with excitement after our action-packed day.
Because while Emrys and Wyatt are probably brooding back at the resort boring each other to death, I know this daring beauty beside me craves adventure and excitement deep down in her soul, and I aim to unleash that side of her until her heart is racing with more than just the thrill of adrenaline.
The wind whips through our hair as Kat and I soar together through the rainforest canopy once more, our exhilarated shouts mingling and echoing across the valley. As we reach the next platform, I can't wipe the wide grin from my face.
"Damn, darlin', you were born to fly," I say with a laugh as her eyes sparkle brightly from the adrenaline rush.
Kat nudges my shoulder playfully, cheeks flushed pink in the most alluring way. "What can I say, you bring out my inner daredevil, Cowboy."
Her smile makes my chest tighten in the best way, and I have to resist the urge to pull her into a searing kiss right then and there.
Focus, man.
We take off down the next line. With her hair streaming behind her like a banner and joy lighting up her striking features, Kat looks positively radiant.
As we touch down at the next stop, I watch her try to smooth down the flyaway strands of her dark silky hair and fail adorably, making me chuckle.
"What's next on the agenda?" Kat asks, turquoise eyes dancing with anticipation.
I grin, unable to resist teasing her a bit. "Patience, darlin'. You'll see soon enough."
She narrows her eyes, but there's no masking that reckless light still blazing within them. We take the last zip line stretched high across a mist-filled valley carved out by a roaring waterfall. Kat's infectious laughter mingles with the crashing water as we soar weightlessly together.
I knew she'd love this rush of excitement, being able to cut loose and embrace the thrill of the moment. Out here, nothing else matters but the wind in our hair and the endless possibilities shining in her vibrant eyes.
As we skid to a graceful stop at the final platform, I watch Kat try to catch her breath, flush with exertion. Man alive, she really is something. I don’t think I’ve ever met a woman quite like her. Someone who matches me thrill for thrill.
Before the moment can slip away, I step closer and take her delicate hands in mine. "Thanks for sharing this adventure with me, Kat," I say earnestly. Her lips part as she blinks up at me in surprise.
"Of course," she says, a hint of shy pleasure in her voice. "That was really fun, cowboy."
"Oh, the fun's just getting started, darlin'," I promise recklessly.
Kat's eyes widen at my daring promise, a tantalizing mix of trepidation and intrigue swirling in their sea-glass depths. Before she can respond, our guide interrupts with perfect timing.
"I hope you two enjoyed the zip line tour! Now, who's ready for some cliff diving?" He gestures to the waterfall cascading beside us into an inviting natural pool below.
As we take in the view of the crashing falls, I plop down on a nearby boulder and pat the spot next to me. "Why don't we sit a spell before our big plunge?"
Kat settles gracefully, shoulders just barely brushing mine. A pleasant tingle runs through me at even that slight contact.
"So tell me, darlin', what made you choose the glamorous world of animal welfare?" I ask, genuinely curious to know what drives her.
Kat smiles, gazing out across the valley. "I've loved animals for as long as I can remember. When I was little, I was always trying to bring home strays to save them."
Her expression turns wistful. "I cried when I found out swans could only have one mate their whole lives. It seemed so tragically romantic to me."
