I huff, letting my head fall back to stare at the ceiling again. It is a nice ceiling afterall. Vaulted and with a huge glass skylight. “But, then again, this entire conversation and inner turmoil could be completely moot anyways. There’s no way in hell they could possibly be as smitten as my romance-addicted bitchass. It’s just not reasonable.”

“Honey, I think reasonable flew out the window the second the four of you landed in bed together at the same damn time.” Annabelle chuckles as I groan. “I mean, think about it. I doubt any one of them has ever shared a woman with two other dudes before. It doesn’t happen outside of that porn you watch.”

“I don’t watch porn. I read it. Like a fucking lady!” I glare at her, but there’s no real heat behind it.

“Potato. Po-tah-to.” She waves me off like a bothersome fly. “I mean it. Have you even asked them what their intentions are with you?”

“Intentions?” I chuff. “What am I? My own overprotective father?”

She giggles as she shoves at my shoulder. “Well, we could always have Dad do it for you.”

“That…” I roll my eyes so hard I’m worried they will fall out of my head. “Is probably the worst piece of advice you’ve ever given. And you once convinced Naomi that a bowl-cut was in style.”

“She ate my surprise curly fry in my regular fries. You never eat someone else’s surprise curly fry. It’s a well known fact.”

I choke out a laugh as she glares not at all menacingly at her phone on the coffee table, as if she were ready to lay into the girl again for her food faux pas. She doesn’t look scary, but my sister is still definitely not one to be trifled with. Especially when it comes to her food.

“Ladies!” Ethan interjects, cutting off our moment and drawing both of our attention. “You’re forgetting that you have a perfect insight into the male mind sitting right here. You could just ask me, you know.”

And now we’re both laughing.

Ethan’s face turns stricken as I gasp for air. “What’s so funny?”

“Oh come on, Tin-Man. You’ve been up my sister’s ass since you hit puberty. How exactly are you going to help in this situation? You probably have no memory of what it’s like to be single. I swear, even before your balls dropped and you got your first pubic hair, you were following her around the schoolyard. You can’t possibly understand what it feels like to not only be torn between multiple people or what it feels like to not be completely in love with a woman.”

He groans, rubbing at his hair until it’s even more messy than it was before. “Very funny, Kat. So then, why am I here?”

“Because you were going to get the rundown as soon as I told Annabelle everything anyways. I figured I’d save her the trouble of translating it terribly–there’s no telling how she’d make me look–and let you hear it straight from the source.” I shrug, picking at a piece of dead skin on my pointer finger.

“Oh come on, Kat. Maybe he can help.” Annabelle goes to bat for her soulmate instantly and he smiles at her so lovingly, I swear he might just snatch her up and carry her off to bed again. They really are sickly sweet together.

“How’s that?”

“What time are you meeting Emrys tonight?”

My eyebrows scrunch together in confusion. “Seven. Why?”

“Well, you want some insight. And Ethan is really good at making friends.” She grins at him again. “Start with Emrys before they leave. He’ll be hard to crack, so you’ll have to start as soon as we’re done here.”

“Oh, good idea. Scott has a family of baby bunnies hidden in his room. I’ll tell Emrys I need help making sure he’s taking care of them.” He nods excitedly.

“Then Wyatt. He’ll probably be the easiest.”

“Yeah, you’re probably right. Too honorable to hide shit. I won’t even need a reason to corner him. I’ll just be honest.”

“Then Wilder. He’s, for lack of a better word, the wild card of the bunch. His reaction could go either way, so just play it by ear.”

My head swivels back and forth between them as I try and keep up with whatever shit they’re plotting.

“That’s true.” Ethan nods, his hand moving to rub at his chin as if deep in thought. “Ah, I got it. We’ll just use the bride excuse again. I think he’s far too nice to say no to you if you need him. Even if he’ll hate it. That’s if I need an excuse anyways.”

“Good one! I’ve got the perfect job for you to do anyways.” Annabelle’s eyes are lit up with a glow of excitement. As if this shit’s better than the fact that she’s in Cancun for her wedding. She’s crazy. “Now remember, do not even hint at the idea that you’re there to report back to Kat, but rather…as her brother-in-law and just looking out for her like family. Be as subtle as you can.”

“I got this.” And with that, he’s on his feet and racing from the room. Gone in the next blink of my eyes.

“What are we, in grade school again?” My eyes are wide as I focus all my attention on Annabelle.

“No, silly Kitty-Kat. If we were in grade school, I would have just forged your signature on a note that says: Do you like me? Circle yes or no.” I groan and she taps her chin in thought. “On second thought, that’s actually kind of cute. Maybe I should…”
