Her next order of business was to find a private spot where she could make a phone call. The nicer weather seemed to have all the cowboys and their ladies outdoors. She didn’t want to risk running into Ash and Piers—what she was about to do she needed to do alone.

The walk to the water didn’t take very long. She passed a few couples and turned her face away from the sight of a woman trapped against a tree, her leg thrown over a Boot Knocker’s shoulder as he licked her pussy.

Her insides coiled with desire to be doing the very same thing.

Soon, she told herself. She would handle this business and then go and find her lovers.

Two people sat on the dock where she had first stepped off the plane, so Sylvee took a detour onto a short path. With so many people out and about, she didn’t worry about running into a grizzly and wandered the path with confidence.

When she popped out on another section of the bank, she stopped, sucking in a gasp.

Oh, this brand of beauty could fill up her soul. In fact, it was overflowing.

She drew in a deep breath, and then took out her phone and dialed Charlie.

When his new assistant answered, Sylvee requested that she put her through at once. A second later, Charlie’s voice projected into her ear.

“Sylvee.”

“Hi, Charlie. I’ve made a decision.”

“Oh?”

“I’m not coming back to Washington.”

He issued a loud bark of laughter. “Is the dick really that good?”

“Yes.”

“Whose is it? Ash or Piers?”

“Both.”

The beat of silence brought a grin flashing across her face. Before he could come up with something ruder to say, she barreled on with her news. “I’m also giving up the law firm.”

He sputtered. “You’re joking.”

“Nope. It’s all yours. We’ll settle on the amount it will take to buy me out at a later time. I just wanted you to know so I can start living my life right now.”

“Sylvee…”

“Whatever you’re about to say, save it, Charlie. I don’t care anymore. I’m free of you. What we had was good once, but I’m ready to move on. Enjoy your life, and good luck.”

She didn’t give him the chance to respond—she ended the call.

Then she gazed out at the water for another long moment, drinking in more of the striking scenery and reveling in the knowledge that she was making the right decision for herself.

She was creating her own happiness, starting right now.

Piers and Ash both sat on the edge of their kitchen chairs. Ash leaned forward, his elbows on his knees and his head in his hands. Piers’s arms were folded and one knee bounced with the nerves he couldn’t begin to release from his body.

Sylvee had been gone for a long time. Piers had gone looking for her, terrified her horse had taken a fall on the rougher terrain she wasn’t used to navigating. But when he went into the paddock, he found the mare she’d taken safe and secure inside, dozing in the spring sunshine.

She was around the ranch somewhere. It was torture waiting for her to come to them.

“Whatever her answer is, I’m ready to accept it.” He scrubbed a hand over his face.
