Tyler

I walk up to the door of the main bedroom in Maya and Theo’s massive luxury cabin where their wedding is being held tonight on New Year’s Eve.

I knock, but there’s no answer, despite hearing voices behind the door.

I knock again.

“One second!” Maya hollers.

Thirty seconds later, the door opens and I see my little sister in her wedding dress, adjusting her veil over her face.

“Wow…” I walk up to her. “Maya, you look beautiful.”

She beams. “Thanks, big brother.”

I hug her, careful not to step on her dress. It’s not poofy like Becca’s wedding dress was, but the white lace it’s made of pools slightly at her feet and looks really delicate. I don’t want to ruin her big day by being a clumsy oaf and damaging her dress.

I notice it’s just the two of us right now. “Hey, um, you’re still okay with what I’m doing later, right?” I ask Maya. “I double checked with Theo and he’s cool with it, but I just want to make sure you still are too.”

She grins. “Of course I am.”

I let out a silent breath of relief. Ingrid, Maya’s best friend and maid of honor, walks out from the adjoining master bathroom. She moves to hug me. A minute later, Becca walks into the bedroom from the master bathroom holding up a fluffy makeup brush in her hand.

“Last-minute powder check. Who needs some?” She looks at me. “Oh hey, Tyler!”

She walks over and hugs me. “Wow, you look dapper.”

I tug at the lapels of my black tuxedo jacket and adjust my bowtie. “You think so? Because your husband said I looked like a slob when we were getting ready earlier.”

Becca’s head falls back as she laughs. She waves a hand. “You know that’s your brother’s way of telling you that you look good.”

I laugh. “You look lovely, Becca.”

She smiles and brushes a hand over the light pink silk dress she’s wearing. “Aww thanks.” She smooths a hand over her hair, which is styled in a long, thick braid over her shoulder. “Wait till you see your girl.” Becca wiggles her eyebrow. “She’s touching up her makeup in the bathroom mirror.”

When I walk in, I stop in the doorway, blown away at how beautiful Tori looks. She’s sitting on a stool in front of the mirror, gently running a Q-tip under her eye.

She turns to look at me and smiles. “Hey.”

I lean against the doorway for a long moment and just gaze at her. “Hey.”

Her smile widens. “You’re making me blush with the way you’re staring at me.”

“Can’t help it. You look stunning.”

I walk over to her, lean down, and carefully press a kiss to her lips so I don’t mess up her lipstick.

“Even with this?” she pulls up the hem of her light pink silk gown, revealing her cast.

“Yup. Even with that, you look gorgeous. Hot. Breathtaking. The most beautiful woman I’ve ever laid eyes on.”

Emotion flashes in her eyes when she looks at me. She grabs my chin and kisses me until I run out of breath.

When she lets me go, her lipstick is smudged.

“Oops.” She giggles as she turns my head to the mirror and I see red lipstick smeared over my mouth. I look like the Joker.

I grin. “Worth it.”
