That’s not what I want anymore.

Tori’s beautiful face flashes in my mind as I turn the van around and drive back to Sweet Cheeks.

The truth is, I want to date Tori. But that will never happen.

Her friendship is all I’ll ever get, and that’s good enough. It has to be.

I park the work van in a free spot near the front of Sweet Cheeks. When I walk back inside, I’m surprised to see my little sister Maya there with her boyfriend Theo. She’s standing at the counter, gesturing wildly at Becca and Tori, who are both grinning at her. They must be excited about something.

Maya spins around and beams at me.

“Hey.” I hug her and say hi to Theo. “What are you guys doing here?”

Maya flashes the widest grin I’ve ever seen her make. “We’re engaged!” she squeals.

I take a second to process what she’s said. “Wait, are you serious?”

She holds up her left hand and wiggles her ring finger at me, where a massive diamond sits. I pull her into another hug.

I squeeze her tight, pumped for my baby sister. “Congrats, you guys.”

I let her go and turn to Theo, who’s beaming too. I pull him into a hug, and he makes an “oof” sound.

“Theo, bro, welcome to the family,” I say when I release him.

He chuckles. “Thanks, man. Means a lot.”

I give him a pat on the shoulder, excited for the two of them.

“You’re gonna have a pro hockey player for a brother-in-law. Your dream come true,” Tori teases.

It’s no secret I’m a hockey fan. Ever since Maya and Theo started dating, Theo and I have become pretty good friends. He plays left wing for the Denver Bashers, and he’s been kind enough to get me tickets to every home game I’ve wanted to attend.

“That ring is my dream come true,” Becca says while gawking at Maya’s engagement ring.

I gesture to the ring. “Damn, dude. Pro hockey pays well, huh?” I give Theo a good-natured shove.

He laughs before turning to Maya and swiping her hand in his. “Only the most gorgeous diamond for my fiancée.”

I look away before I have to see them kiss. As happy as I am for my little sister, I sure as fuck don’t want to see her make out with her guy.

I clear my throat. “Done yet?”

Maya makes an annoyed sound and I turn back around.

“Wild to think that you couldn’t even stand Theo a year ago, and now you’re getting engaged,” I joke to Maya.

She rolls her eyes but she’s smiling.

Theo’s head falls back as he laughs. “She came around eventually. She just couldn’t resist my charm. Or my incredible body,” he teases as he slinks his arm around her waist.

I look away again to avoid seeing more PDA.

I think back to the crazy way Maya and Theo got together. He had been kicked off his pro hockey team for partying and hooking up all the time and was hiding out at his cousin Ingrid’s cabin in the mountains just outside of Denver. Maya is Ingrid’s best friend and was working as her personal assistant at the time. She asked Maya to live in the cabin with Theo to make sure he didn’t trash it from all his partying. Maya couldn’t stand Theo at first, but all that time spent together led to them getting together.

“You can turn back around now,” Maya says to me.

“Finally,” I groan.
