“My goodness, his daughter… tell him I’m so sorry.”

Aurora moved to speak, but Asher held up his hand.

They thought she was dead, we needed to keep it that way.

“Mom, why do you think they’re headed to us?” Killian asked. “We’re in a secure location.”

“A safehouse, yes. They know. They’ve known for a while, they’ve just been biding their time, lulling you into a false sense of security, expecting you to drop your guard.”

“Why should we trust your intel?” Asher questioned. “For all we know, with your link to Isobel, you could be attempting to lure us out so she can take us out.”

“Isobel doesn’t know. Her focus is elsewhere currently. I was tasked with obtaining Samuel’s phone because she needs information shared between him and Carson.”

“How the hell did you pull that off?” Killian asked.

“I have my ways.”

“And where is he now, Mom? What if he comes at you for doing that? He’ll kill you, he’ll—”

“I’m at the airstrip now boarding a flight out. I’ll be fine. But I need you to be. Get out. They were able to track you there. I don’t know how, but the point is that they were. They’re going to raid your house tonight, murder you and Jonah and whoever else is there allied with you, then bring Asher back to one of their slaughterhouses and finish what they started.”

“All right, Mom. We’ll see to it.”

“Message me on this number when you’re safe, darling. Promise me.”

“I will.”

“And Asher? Again, I’m sorry.”

Asher shook his head.

“Be careful, Mom,” Killian urged.

“I will. Be safe, darling.”

They said a quick goodbye, then Kill stowed his phone away and eyed us. “Jesus Christ.”

“They’ve found us,” I uttered.

“How?” Aurora asked. “This place is secure.”

“Good fucking question,” Asher growled.

I rushed downstairs, shrugging my backpack on with the supplies I’d stuffed inside in moments, and headed into the kitchen where everybody was gathering.

Jonah’s early-warning alert was still sounding from his phone, adding to the already building urgency.

Aurora was there talking with Aaron, dressed in a pair of her leather pants, that sexy tight black tee that I liked on her making her breasts pop, then a cropped leather jacket over the top. She had her hair pulled back in a high ponytail out of her face, and she was securing her Sig into a holster at her right hip. Aaron had his duffel bag slung over his shoulder and he was telling her about all the routes through the traps we had set up surrounding the property.

Lance was talking with Asher, the two of them trying to figure out how this had happened, and how valid my mom’s intel really was.

Jonah came running down the stairs a backpack strapped to him and another in his hand, that he handed to Ash. He’d packed for him too, while Ash had been busy with Lance.

Olivia came rushing back into the room. Poor woman had only been here minutes and all hell was already breaking loose. As soon as her, Lance, and Aaron had entered the house just two minutes after we’d received that call from my mom, we’d told them what had gone down, and what was coming at us. Then we’d all rushed to gather our shit.
