Shit. No. No. No. If Carson had him, he’d cage him.

“He’s just gotta be lying low. Let me call. Maybe he—”

“You can’t.”

In the next second, Caleb brought out a phone.

One look at the unique, custom-made cover that had his snake tattoos drawn on the back, had me sucking in a breath. “How did you get his fucking phone?”

“He passed it to me. It was a countermeasure in case he was caught.”

Cursing under my breath for so many reasons, and trying to push down my anger that Caleb had been the one Asher had entrusted his phone to—his lifeline—I pulled mine out and accessed the app I needed.

“What are you doing?”

“He might be the one with all the secrets that keep us safe, but there’s one I have too. There’s a tracker in his bracelet.”

“His anxiety beads?”

I nodded. “Inside one of the beads.” I’d sorted that shit out shortly after he’d gone off-territory without me that night. I was fine—for the most part—with him being cagey. I knew he had to be, but I couldn’t take not having a backup in place if something went wrong while he was off on some dicey, clandestine meet, like I now knew he’d been with Revenant that night.

“Nicely done.”

I didn’t want his compliments or approval.

There was only one person’s I wanted when it came to that.

Although, I doubted that was gonna happen now I’d had to reveal this to Caleb. He’d tell him, without a doubt. Asher didn’t do well with being out of the loop. He didn’t like other people keeping the secrets, he couldn’t stomach it.

But this had been a necessity.

And it was proving absolutely vital right about now.

“I’ve got a lock,” I told him. “Says he’s a few blocks south-west from here.”

We were bolting then, sticking to the shadows in case we encountered any robes along our way. My father had revealed that we’d been compromised, so I had no doubt Carson and Samuel had sent their muscle out to hunt us.

We had to do this quick, finding Asher, Killian, and Aurora, before they closed in on us and we missed our extraction window entirely.

Passing a side street on our way, commotion caught my attention and it actually pulled me up short when I spotted Kill. He was stumbling out of a vehicle, yelling and then slamming the door, almost falling over in the process. Shit, he was either hurt or drugged. I couldn’t tell which from this distance.

“Kill!” I called out.

He swung around, just as two suited guys rushed out from the vehicle, coming at him.

Caleb fired, putting a bullet through their skulls and dropping them instantly.

The car screeched, burning rubber as it took off like a bat out of hell.

Kill stared at the bodies for a moment, in a daze.

“Move. Now!” I called again.

It managed to jolt him from whatever was going through his head.

And then he was making his way over to us.

Slowly.
