“Nice work,” he said, giving my shoulder a squeeze.

I grinned. “Told you I had it.”

“You certainly did.”

It was a big step toward bringing Aurora back to us.

Your move, Lance.

“Don’t touch me!”

“Not even a drop yet. You’re resisting. Admirably, too, considering my ability.”

“I’ll never give you what you want.”

“You’re certain of that, are you?”

“Yes. This is a waste of time.”

“Hmm, unfortunately, despite your bravado, I’m well aware that I’m already getting to you.”

I shuddered as the memories slammed into me, memories I’d been trying so hard to shove down, to keep buried deep. And I’d been succeeding really well. The longer that went by with me doing that, though, the more that unresolved shit that I’d refused to deal with at all, or even to acknowledge, fought to breach my conscious mind.

That fucking bastard, Carson, had touched me, violated me, and threatened me and Asher with a whole lot worse.

Since learning that Asher had been taken, it had brought it up, the torture of it all.

“Stop it,” I chided myself.

I finished pulling on my jeans after working out and sparring in the small gym setup that doubled as a laundry room.

“Ten minutes!” my dad’s voice rang out.

He was making dinner tonight.

It was the first time the three of us were sitting down together.

Since he’d calmed down and allowed me upstairs, it had been me and Olivia eating together, while he’d been dealing with the ongoing situation, contacting his plants, and all that. And then he’d been away getting Asher out of that hellhole.

Thank fuck for that.

Now the knot in my gut had loosened enough for me to think without it causing me pain.

Well, for the most part.

I was still away from my men.

And now there was this torment.

My tablet beeped on the sink counter and I walked to it.

I’d done it.

It was underhanded, but with the way my dad had been, I’d had to take precautions.
