But this… being able to reach me, to stop me, while I was in this unleashed state… it was another level entirely.

It was why I’d allowed Aaron to give me that sedative to put me out last night.

Not because I was worried I couldn’t keep control when it came to Lance, but because I’d hoped it would allow me to recalibrate and shake the impact she’d had on me, that I’d wake up refreshed the next morning and discover it had only been a fluke, a one-time occurrence borne from suddenly having her back with us again, the shock and relief of it all, the alteration she always had to our dynamic.

But it hadn’t.

It hadn’t worked like that.

As I sat on the edge of her bed stroking her soft blonde hair fanned out over the pillow I could feel her, feel my sentiment for her infecting me.

Killian shifted and my eyes darted from her beautiful face to him wrapped around her on the other side of the bed, spooning her and basically being the simp he always was for her.

He was shirtless on account of Aurora wearing his tee as she slept.

He’d been so taken with having her back, he’d risked Lance’s wrath by making the mistake of sleeping in here with her throughout the night. He could’ve at least woken up early to sneak back to his room. But he’d stayed, clearly not wanting to leave her side, her warmth.

Fortunately for him, I’d woken up early and been on my way here just moments ahead of Lance. I’d blocked his path, already having looked in on Killian’s room and found his bed empty and putting two and two together as to where he was.

A physical altercation had been avoided and we’d barely been in one another’s presence for more than a couple of moments when he’d gotten a call and he’d taken off downstairs and then outside to have it in private.

Killian’s eyes opened and he jolted as he took me in staring at him. He looked at Aurora, specifically noting me stroking her hair. “Way to be a fucking creeper, Ash,” he hissed.

“How was she with you last night?” I asked quietly so as not to wake her.

“What do you mean?” he said, reluctantly pulling from her and sitting up in the bed.

“You know exactly what I mean.”

“That’s something you need to ask her. And you’d already know the answer if you’d been here.”

Little shit. “I’m asking you.”

He recognized my dangerous tone, then sucked in a breath and told me, “A little on edge at first. She feels guilty for what Lance has done. She also thought we’d consider her tainted from Carson touching her.”

A growl rumbled in my throat. “None of what they’ve done touches her. It never could.”

“That’s what I told her and we worked through it.”

“You fucked her then.”

He flinched. “I wouldn’t put it so crassly. It was more than that.”

“I don’t doubt it. It always is more with her.”

His expression softened and I saw him relax at that. He actually even smiled as he said, “Yeah. Yeah, it is.” He frowned then. “Hold up, you’re recognizing that through his beast state of yours?”

“Apparently.”

Before he could respond to that, my phone buzzed in the pocket of my leather jacket.

I pulled it out and swiped it open to view the text that had come in.

Aaron: Got Lance with me. Walking the perimeter. Buying you some time with your girl.

I smiled at that, then fired off a text to Jonah.

Asher: Get your sore ass to Aurora’s room.
