“What else?”

“I’m sorry,” she said, and I finally looked up to see her in tears.

“Sorry for what? None of this is your doing,” I answered.

“All of this started with me.”

“All of this started and will finish with Tezcatlipoca. You’re caught up in the middle of his shit as much as we are,” I corrected her.

I managed to stand up, and she walked forward and embraced me. For the few moments she hugged me, the burning subsided, and I felt lighter, but I could only grunt and fall down to the ground when she stepped back, and I felt the burning pain rushing back into my body.

“Trust your love for Evie. Lean on it. It will never lead you astray.”

“Moon Goddess?” I asked, concentrating on my words. My body began feeling heavy, and I struggled to keep my eyes open.

“Yes?”

“Can I spank my mate while pregnant for going off on her own?” Her delicate laugh reached my ears, and I was happy to hear it. Seeing the tears on her face wasn’t something I wanted to see. She was family, and I wanted to see my family happy.

“What you do in the bedroom is up to you, Cory, but don’t be too hard on her. Evie doesn’t do anything risky without reason.”

I finally stopped fighting my body. I wanted to return to the real world, no matter how painful that may be. That was where Evie was. I was unsure if I imagined it, but before I was yanked from whatever dream world I was with Selene, I thought I heard her say, “Bring Bells home, Cory.”

Chapter Thirty-One

Celeste

A sharp rapping on the door made Markus and I stir. We spent last night monitoring the feeds and checking the scans, and this morning, Maya finally dragged us home and ordered us to sleep.

I couldn’t take much more of this. My Violet was gone. She was the sweetest of all my children, and she’d already been through so much. She didn’t deserve whatever hell Tezcatlipoca planned for my family.

The knocks on the door grew more urgent, and Markus stood, pulled on a pair of pants, and we hurried toward the door.

“Oh, thank Goddess! I was about to break down the door,” Jo was sweating and holding a phone tightly to his chest. “Bells needs to talk to you. She’s freaking out, and you’re not answering your phones.” Markus looked alarmed when Jo pushed the phone into my hands.

“Bells, what’s wrong?” I answered.

“It’s Judy Martinez, Mom. You need to go get her and get Cory and Evie,” Bells’ voice was high and panicked as she spoke.

“Honey, slow down. What are you talking about?” I asked.

Who the fuck is Judy Martinez? Kara asked.

How should I know?

Bells took a long, deep breath before she started speaking again.

“Cory mind-linked me. He was running after Evie but forgot to tell everyone in his panic. Evie figured out who the mole was. It’s a woman named Judy Martinez. She’s Paolo’s mother. She’ll know where Violet is, Mom.”

“Then I’ll find her,” I growled.

“Cory thought that’s who Evie went to meet. He said to bring help to the old restaurant a few miles outside the pack grounds. Do you know where that is?”

Kara growled. Did we ever? To this day, Markus still doesn’t like going to Italian restaurants.

“Yes. I know where it is, sweetie. We’ll head over there,”

“Be careful, Mom,” she said quietly. I hung up and looked at Markus and Jo as they waited for me.
