“You’re sure you have the time to do this?” Sten said to Eamerson.

“Jori requested it. There aren’t many other males that he trusts enough yet. Besides, I can use the break from running around the mountain to do some administrative work.” Eamerson pulled his tablet from the satchel he had slung across his chest. Setting it aside, he held up Kargassa’s memoir. “And when I get through that, I have some light reading to entertain myself.”

“No further leads?”

Eamerson shook his head. “If we rely solely on the footage, you’re the only suspect. But Marli vouched for your whereabouts.”

Goliath frowned at them. “What happened?”

Eamerson glanced from the big guy to Sten, who nodded for him to explain the situation.

“That doesn’t make sense. If Sten was going to let them out, he’d have done it at the beginning, when everyone would have supported him to lead this tribe. Not now.”

Eamerson raised a brow at Sten.

Sten scratched his forehead with his thumb. “Right, so we’re exploring options to understand who else that could be and why.”

Eamerson said, “I don’t know anyone else that resembles Sten that could pass as him.”

“Let me see the video.” Goliath curled his fingers, prompting Eamerson to show him on his tablet.

Goliath squinted at the screen as he watched the clips. “Yep, that looks like you, but you’re coming from the library. I’ve never seen you in the library, Sten.”

“I’ve been there a couple of times,” Sten crossed his arms.

“That day?” It was Goliath’s turn to lift a brow.

“No, both times I went, I was with Marli.”

“If that’s not you, then this whole thing is creepy. And I don’t know anyone that can pass as you either.”

Sten grunted.

Goliath was quiet for a moment. “What other options are you thinking of?”

“Magic?” Eamerson offered.

Goliath laughed, looking between Eamerson and Sten. “You’re kidding.”

Sten shrugged. “Not unless you know of any shifters in this mountain that have the ability to borrow faces?”

“They aren’t real.”

Eamerson’s brows lifted as he raised a finger. “According to the humans, we aren’t real either.”

“Okay, well, this conversation just got real weird. Sten, make sure you tell Jori about me and the funeral. I know some of the other guys would want in on that, too.”

“I will. And thanks for helping in the search for the prisoners. Get some rest. I’ll be back in a few hours.” Sten said to Eamerson before making his way to the elevator with Goliath.

In the elevator, Goliath said, “You’re not kidding about the magic idea.”

“Nope.”

“Creepy.”

“Yep.”
