The Aeleftherian contingent. In flight, the enemy dragon angled to follow them.

Shit.

“You’re not seriously fucking considering going to Aeleftheria, are you?” Marli found a clearing, dropped her pack, texted Sten, undressed, and stuffed the clothing in the bag.

She shifted into her dragon again, hooked her pack with a purple claw, and took flight.

Sten paced the length of the windows in the council room, watching the distant group of Aeleftherians.

Elora had told them the gist of what they thought might happen with the librarian, and the Consortium.

Red had some pretty colorful language for that bit of information.

“And you just let the spy go?” Zayli snapped.

“Marli is on it,” Sten growled, “and the imposter doesn’t have the real seal.”

Zayli huffed, but said no more.

“We should go,” Neliah said. “The queen and council need to know about this new threat.”

“I agree,” Red said. “How do we get back to the hangar?”

“You can depart from the terrace,” Jori said. “We’re on standby to hear from Marli. We’ll be in touch.”

“Just remember the magical field around Aeleftheria inhibits modern communication.” Red reminded him.

Jori nodded as he led them to the terrace in the adjacent room. “I remember.”

The warriors shifted and took off.

Moments later, Sten squinted as an unfamiliar dragon appeared in the air, following the three Aeleftherians.

Who is that?

His phone buzzed.

A second lone dragon glided into view before climbing higher in the sky.

“Kymri, it looks like Marli is pursuing a dragon who is following the Aeleftherians.”

Kymri rushed over to peer into the distance. “Yes, that’s her.”

He checked his phone. “She sent a message. It’s on.”

They exchanged glances.

“And who the hell is that?” Kymri frowned as a much larger dragon joined the trail.

Sten squinted as the unfamiliar figure approached from a different direction, following Marli. “Male. I’ve never seen that dragon before.”

“Hey, has anyone seen Eamerson? He hasn’t been around in a while and he was supposed to meet up with us after the funeral to discuss the next steps for the tribe.” Jori said as he entered the room.

“He was here when the librarian come to collect the seal, posing as him, but left shortly after we secured the real one in the vault with the crown and the book.” Kymri frowned. “He seemed a little preoccupied with some messages he received on his phone, and went rushing off.”

“I wouldn’t have thought there’d be any issues directly after the funeral,” Jori turned his concerned gaze to Sten.

“I wouldn’t think so either. Everyone would observe a period of respectful mourning. Any problems should wait until after that.”
