“Come on, Hallie, I’ll give you a ride home,” Logan blurts out, walking straight for me and practically dragging me toward the passenger side of his truck.

“Have a great day, Shay!” I holler as I’m lifted into the truck. “Choke on a dick, you egotistical cow,” I mutter as Logan shuts the door.

Logan doesn’t acknowledge his ex anymore and walks around to climb behind the wheel. The moment he shuts the door, his woodsy scent wraps around my nose and tickles my clit.

Pushing that tingling thought aside, I shift in my seat and say, “What a twat. Why the hell were you locking lips with that she-devil right smack dab in your front yard?”

Steering toward my condo, he replies, “Not my yard. And I wasn’t kissing her. She kissed me, and I’m pretty sure she only did it because she saw you.”

“She’s such a piece of work,” I grumble, looking out the window.

After a beat, he agrees, “That she is.”

We’re both silent, lost in our own thoughts, as we move through the streets of town and head to my condo. He pulls into the driveway and puts the truck in park, drumming his thumb against the steering wheel, almost as if he’s trying to decide if he’s going to get out or not.

The last thing I need is for him to walk me inside. I’m liable to strip off my clothes and throw my feet in the air, and that’s not going to happen. “Thanks for the lift, though it wasn’t necessary. I could have walked.”

He gives me a crooked grin. “I know, but I didn’t want to hear you got arrested for fighting Shay in her front yard. Can you imagine the rumors?”

I flash him an appalled look for a second, but it’s quickly replaced by a Cheshire Cat grin. “She’d deserve it,” I agree with a shrug.

“True.” Logan clears his throat and dives into the elephant in the room—or in the truck cab—that needs to be discussed. “Listen, about last night…”

“Let’s not do this, okay? We were both drunk. End of story.”

He slowly nods. “Yes, I agree, alcohol played a part in what happened…”

“See? There you go. Case closed. There’s no need to rehash it. What happened, happened, and we won’t do that again.”

“Drink?” he asks, the corner of his mouth curling up in a slight grin.

“Well, that too, but I was referring to…you know. The other part.”

His dark eyes watch me, studying my every move. “The other part,” he repeats, a hint of desire dripping from his voice, as if he’s recalling exactly what the other part entails.

“So, we’ll just pretend it didn’t occur and leave it at that.” I reach for the door handle and push. “Thanks for the lift.”

Logan nods, and I can feel him watching me climb from his truck. Just before I close the door, he hollers, “Hey, Hal? Shay was wrong, you know.”

I pause, standing sideways as I gaze back into the cab. “About what?”

His eyes drop to my ass, and he licks his lips. “Your ass is perfect the way it is.”

My throat goes dry, and my heart begins to pound a little harder in my chest. Unable to find the words to reply, I step out of the way and shut the door. I can feel his eyes on me like a caress as I make my way onto the front porch of my condo and pull my keys out of my pocket. His truck still idles behind me, but I refuse to turn around. Once the lock is released, I slip inside, the ache between my legs so intense, I feel it move up my torso and land in my nipples.

“You need to forget all about what happened. We’re never doing that again.”

But as I head for my bathroom to shower away the light sweat from my walk, I argue with myself every step of the way. It doesn’t matter how amazing it was, we’re never getting naked again. It was a mistake. One I won’t be making again anytime soon.

Keep telling yourself that.

My phone buzzes later that afternoon, and I smile the moment I spot a text from my best friend on the screen.

Blair: How are you feeling?

Me: I should be asking you that. You left not feeling well.

Blair: It’s passed. I’m good.
