Page 31 of Pretty Drunk

My jaw drops as I spin around. “No one ever gets that.”

“Well, watch and learn, Cupcake,” he states, reaching for his fifth and final ball.

Holding a drink in one hand, he does an extra little squatty bounce as he gets into position. My eyes are glued to his ass in a pair of well-worn denim, and I don’t even notice when he releases the ball. I hear the slide as it shoots up the lane and hits the back. I turn just in time to witness that damn ball fall into the small hole at the top left corner of the game.

One hundred points.

“Yes!” he bellows victoriously, throwing his arm straight up in the air. “Winner, winner, baby!” He punches the air, making me want to punch him in the face.

“You cheated,” I insist, unable to comprehend how he just got that ball into the one-hundred-point spot. “No one hits that. It’s impossible.”

“Well, today is my lucky day, Cupcake. I hit the one hundred, and I get my truck washed. Now, what am I going to make you wear while you’re scrubbing my truck?” He taps his lips in contemplation.

I narrow my eyes and I spin around, heading straight for the table. “Did you win?” Ellie asks through her yawn.

“He cheated.”

Logan laughs behind me. “Hardly. She’s the world’s worst loser,” he says, plopping down on his chair with a satisfied smirk across his too-damn kissable lips.

“She is,” Gabe chimes in. “One time when we were playing Battleship, she threw her game board at me when I sank her last ship.”

“You cheated!” I declare, pointing my finger at my brother.

He just shakes his head and grins. “My fiancée is tired. I’m going to get her home,” Gabe announces, standing up and extending his hand toward Blair.

“Are you about ready?” Blair asks me, since they picked me up and brought me up here.

I glance around, realizing TD and Ellie are probably getting ready to leave too, and Ava took off about an hour ago. That’ll leave Logan and me, and while I don’t exactly want to stay here for him, I do want a bit of redemption, so I’m not stuck washing his truck in a duck costume or something equally as horrible.

“I might hang around a bit longer,” I reply casually, walking over and giving my friends hugs goodbye.

“Are you sure? We’re happy to drop you on our way,” Gabe says.

“I’m sure. Don’t worry about me,” I reply with a big grin.

That’s when I see a look pass between my brother and Logan, as if he’s silently communicating with him about making sure I get home safely.

Whatever.

TD and Ellie do leave almost immediately after Blair and Gabe, and after a few hugs and well-wishes for their honeymoon, I turn my attention back to a smirking Logan. “All right, Johnson. Double or nothing?”

“Why would I do that? I’ve already won,” he replies, crossing his arms over his broad chest. I try to ignore the way his T-shirt sleeves stretch across taut muscles and tattooed skin.

“Because you know it was a fluke,” I state, hands on my hips.

He chuckles. “Again, why would I agree to a rematch?”

“Because you don’t back down from a challenge.”

He holds my gaze for several long seconds before asking, “Are we still talking about Skee-Ball?”

Lifting my chin, I reply, “Of course. What else?” I know exactly what he was referring to.

“All right, Miss Rhodes, I accept your challenge, but I get to pick the game.”

“Fine,” I reply confidently, hoping he picks pool. I’m a pretty decent pool player and would kill him in a game of nine ball.

Logan scans the bar, which has a huge room full of activities to choose from. From pinball machines, arcade games, pool tables, and more, this place is great for unwinding at the end of a day. Plus, it’s a big hit with the younger crowd.
