My gaze turns to the mirror, and my reflection is pathetic. Mascara is smudged under my eyes, and my hair hangs like a soggy mop over my shoulders. I take the paper towels and attempt to wipe the stickiness away, but I’ll need a shower when I get home.

“Maybe I should text Ivan to pick me up early,” I say.

How am I supposed to get through the rest of the day looking like this? A fresh uniform isn’t going to hide what Johanna did, and I don’t want to give her the satisfaction of seeing me like this for the remainder of the afternoon.

“I wonder why Johanna thinks something is going on between you and Prince Alek,” Prisha says.

“Probably because I’m his partner for the graduation waltz.”

Her eyes go round like saucers behind her thick glasses. “Oh, no, please tell me you’re joking.”

“I wish I was.”

“If Johanna so much as sees Alek looking at you, she won’t stop tormenting you. The last girl she saw as her competition had her hair cut off.” She reaches out to touch my wet hair. “Yours is too pretty to cut.”

I wave her off. “That’s not going to happen, because Alek and I are not happening. Ever.”

No matter how hard he gets during dance rehearsals.

“Maybe you need to make that clear to Johanna. Get her to back off.”

I’d love nothing more than to get Johanna off my back. Finish out the semester quietly and leave Andarusia without looking back.

But I’m either too stubborn or too stupid to let Johanna win.

“Not a chance,” I say. “We need to give her a taste of her own medicine.”

“We? Oh, no. We need to end this, not escalate it.”

“Aren’t you sick of it?” I ask, rounding on Prisha. “She won’t stop bullying people until someone stands up to her. But I can’t do it alone.”

Prisha sighs, her shoulders slumping on the exhale. She folds her arms and stares at me for a moment, debating whether to join me or not.

“Fine,” she says, resigned. “What did you have in mind?”

“We have the whole weekend to come up with a plan,” I say. “But come Monday, we’re putting a stop to this, once and for all.”

Chapter 9

Willow

Prisha and I spent the entire weekend coming up with our payback strategy. If we can pull it off, the school will still be talking about it well after Prisha and I are gone.

But there are a lot of things that could go wrong. This plot will require speed and precision.

But, God, I love Prisha’s nerd brain. She deserves all the credit for this idea.

Lunch is already underway, and I’m sitting at our usual spot in the dining hall. My leg is bouncing with nerves as I keep checking the entrance for Prisha.

After a few minutes, she finally appears, scurrying over to take her seat.

“Did you get it?” I ask in a low voice.

“Yes, but we need to act fast.”

“Do you remember the plan?”

“Yep. I’m ready when you are.”
