“Is everything okay?”

“Mhm,” she says with her face scrunched tightly. “It will be in a minute.”

“Maybe we should call the doctor.”

Savanna shakes her head and sighs. “I’m sure it’s fine.”

“Sav,” I say, but another wave of pain hits her and she nearly falls to the floor in front of me.

Gage is quick to help me carry her into the living room while Lily follows closely behind us, constantly asking if her mother is okay. I turn to her and give her the best smile I can manage and nod my head toward her room down the hall. “Go in your room for a minute with Unca Gaga and watch a movie with him, sweetheart.”

“Mommy okay?”

I nod. “She’s fine, baby.”

I’m pretty sure she’s in labor, so as soon as Gage walks Lily into her room with a nod, letting me know to go ahead, I quickly lift Savanna up and head toward the front door. She hisses in pain again, and I slowly help her into the front seat of the car.

By the end of the night, we’ll likely have another baby added to our perfect little family.

SAVANNA

It’s only five hours later and the cries of our son echo through the room. Dawson is standing next to me, a lone tear falling down his face while a smile takes over and he looks at me with so much love in his eyes.

“You ready to hold your baby boy, mama?” The doctor asks with a smile directed at me.

I nod and immediately hold my arms out, letting her place our son into them gently. His cries die down as soon as his skin touches mine and my eyes blur with tears. “Hey there, baby boy.” I brush my fingers down his cheek and smile at him before looking up at Dawson. “I didn’t know life could feel so complete until now.”

He nods and places a hand on our son’s head. “You’re amazing, baby, and it looks like we’ve got a momma’s boy on our hands already.”

When I glance down, our son has his eyes open slightly and focused intently on my face.

This life is better than I ever thought possible. If I hadn’t given Dawson the chance he asked for, this wouldn’t be happening right now. Dawson is our rock, the one who keeps us sane in this crazy life with a two year-old, and there’s no one else I could ever imagine creating this family with.

“I love you,” I whisper before resting my head back against the bed and letting my eyes fall closed. My heart skips when hands come around our son, pulling him away from me, and one of thenurses smiles before taking him into her arms and walking over to the scales where they’ll get his weight.

“So, have you decided on a name?” The doctor asks.

Dawson chuckles. “The wife is one picky woman when it comes to names, but I think we’ve got a pretty good idea of one.” He looks at me and winks. “I think we’re going to go with Lachlan.”

I smile brightly and nod. “I think that’s perfect.”

Everything about this moment is perfect. All that’s left is getting Lily here to meet him and I can’t wait to see the smile that takes over her face. She’s been so excited to be a big sister, I’m sure Gage has been getting peppered with tons of questions once she realized we headed here.

“I’ll call and check on Lily, baby. You just rest.” Dawson presses a sweet kiss to my cheek and saunters out of the room, stopping briefly to look at our son with a wide smile.

“You’ve got a good one,” a nurse says when she comes to the side of my bed. “Your husband, he’s a good man. I can tell how much he loves you.”

She’s right. He is a good one and I’m never letting him get away again.

Lachlan lets out a small cry, gaining all of my attention, and the nurse quickly walks over to pick him up. She places back on my chest and adjusts the IV and Dawson comes back into the room.

“Gage is going to bring Lily here as soon as possible. She’s excited to meet her baby brother.” He climbs onto the bed with me and wraps an arm around my shoulders, pulling me into him. “You’re a rockstar, Savanna Travis, and the best mother our kids could ever have.”

There’s nothing more attractive than watching Dawson be a dad. I’ve spent more times than I can count watching from her doorway as he read bedtime stories to Lily, my body swimming with desire as he acted out the characters just to hear her giggle. Now I get to watch him with another child and it only makes life better.

Three years ago I never would’ve predicted this is where my life would be. I was hellbent on staying alone, not wanting to risk getting my heartbroken, but I guess the joke’s on me because the man who broke my heart is the one who put it back together. He took all the shattered pieces of my heart and glued them back into place, never once backing down from telling me how sorry he is for the hurt he caused me.

Even to this day, he’ll do something to make up for all our lost time.
