When the ceremony is over, I make my way out of the marquee, and back up to the house. There will be photographs now, and plenty of celebratory congratulations. I just want to be on my own.

Half an hour passes, when the kitchen door bursts open, and Jackson strides in. “There you are,” he declares.

“Did you need me?” I ask.

“Not particularly.” He shakes his head. “I was just with your parents, when Sylvie mentioned that Emma didn’t make it.”

I shrug. “You can’t blame her, can you?”

“Maybe,” Jackson says. “But I know one thing. I know how you feel about her, and I know she needs to hear that from you.”

I look up at him then.

“You already know what you need to do, Finn,” Jackson says. He then throws something at me. Automatically, my hands reach out to grab it, and a set of keys land in my palms. “The trucks by the barn.” He then turns and walks out without another word.
