“Sometimes.”

Korry’s wicked grin told me it was more than that.

“I texted you Henn’s number. She’ll set up the contract.”

“Cool. You guys have any other questions?”

I reached for Reed’s hand.

“Baby?”

“I’m good,” Reed whispered in response.

But he was looking at me, not at Korry.

“Can I just say that you two are fucking hot together,” Korry commented with a sigh. “You’re making me wish I had a special guy.”

Reed turned to him. “No prospects?”

“Nope. The guys I meet just wanna fuck. Which is fine. My schedule’s all over the place. It’s not exactly great for relationships.”

I thought about my own schedule and Reed’s. We were lucky to be working together now but that wouldn’t always be the case. Weeks, sometimes months, apart was a reality in our business.

A warning slithered through my brain, but I ruthlessly ignored it.

My phone pinged and I picked it up, reading Henn’s latest message.

“The official press release just came out,” I announced. “And me along with it.”

Despite Henn’s advice to stay away from social media, I gave in and looked.

I was sweating, my palms damp, my heart about to fly right out of my chest.

Tapping on one account, I noticed dozens and dozens of comments.

Reed sat closer to me and Korry on my other side. I held the phone up so we could all read.

Most of the comments were supportive, some angry on my behalf that I was outed by the tabloid.

Many were insanely happy that Reed and I were together, calling us Hollywood’s newest “it” couple.

And then there were others, calling us slurs I’d heard many times from my sadistic stepfather. Hateful names I never, ever wanted to hear or in this case, read, again. It wasn’t the first time, nor would it be the last, but the vitriolic evidence was still jarring. I blocked and deleted as many as I could. Then I realized Henn was going to ream me out if she knew I was even looking at this.

“I expected that,” I finally managed to speak. “Trolls.”

My right knee began to bounce, and Reed placed a comforting hand on my thigh.

“Unfortunate but true,” Korry stated. “We’re always going to face people who can’t accept us for who we are. But that’s their problem, not ours.”

I nodded.

“Are you guys sticking around here today, laying low?” Korry asked.

“That’s the plan. Not that there’s a shitload of media here in Oxford about to descend upon us.”

“No, but London’s less than two hours away,” he replied. “Don’t be surprised if you find the paps camped outside tomorrow morning.”

“They won’t find us here. I hope.” Reed looked at me. “How would they find out where we’re staying?”
