“With a few notable exceptions,” I added.

“You’re sleeping in the pool house tonight,” Reed muttered.

“Hey, I said there were exceptions. And you’re it.”

Reed chuckled. “You’re so fucking romantic.”

Despite my tired brain, the sarcasm wasn’t lost.

What can I say? Reed knew I was a brooding asshole at the best of times, and he still loved me.

We waved hello to the security guy, Henry, and were motioned to go on through.

Once we’d parked, Korry helped us get all our luggage inside.

Cary and Grant greeted us as we entered the house, mewling their disapproval of us being gone for so long.

Both cats looked as healthy as we left them.

“My babies,” Reed cooed. “Aw, you missed us.”

Of course, they ran to Reed first, rubbing against his legs and purring so loudly I could feel the vibration.

“What about me?” I mumbled and crouched down.

I reached out to give Cary a scratch on the head and was greeted with a hiss that had me standing back up again. Grant’s flat glare told me he was about to do the same.

“Korry, this is my ungrateful cat, Cary. And of course, Reed’s cat, Grant,” I sighed. “He doesn’t like me either.”

Korry tempted fate and crouched down, reaching his hand out.

“I wouldn’t do that if I were you, they don’t like?—”

My sentence was cut short by my cat traipsing over and flopping down in front of Korry, showing off his furry belly. Korry ran his hand along the cat and the purring got louder.

“—strangers,” I finished. “What the hell is this? I’m the one who pays for your special food, and the cat sitter, and I get nothing?”

Korry laughed out loud, and Reed shook his head.

“Come on, Tay, let’s give Korry the tour first,” Reed implored. “You can lecture the kids later.”

Korry snorted and picked up both cats.

Just like that.

I glared at all three of them. Not that it had any effect.

We stepped into the sunny living room, and I let out a huge sigh. It was good to be home.

“Help yourself to whatever we have in the fridge and cupboard. If you have special requests, let us know. We get a food delivery every Tuesday,” Reed remarked. “Outdoor pool and hot tub. Tate does laps in the morning but other than that, it’s all yours. Laundry is just off the pantry. Your room is to the left of that. The cats usually sleep in their beds, but they might wander into your room. If you don’t want them in there, best to keep the door shut.”

“I don’t mind at all,” Korry stated as he walked around, both cats still in tow, clinging to his biceps.

Show off.

“In terms of our schedule,” I added. “Reed and I have a press party tomorrow night, and three interviews the following day.”

“Cool. I’m going to unpack and take a quick nap,” Korry replied and set the beasts down on the sofa. “Yell if you need me.”
