“Tate, how are you dealing with being outed by the tabloids?”

Tate leaned into the mic. “While I think it’s reprehensible that anyone should be pressured into revealing their sexuality, I’m not going to deny the truth any longer. Reed is mine.”

The reporter nodded. “How long have the two of you been together?”

“Not long enough,” Tate replied and guided me on, ignoring most of the shout outs.

“One more and let’s head inside,” Henn said to us.

We bypassed several eager journalists and landed on one at the end of the row, just before the entrance.

I glanced at Henn, and she nodded, waving the reporter to step forward.

“You guys are being called the hottest Hollywood power couple on the red carpet tonight. How do you feel about that?”

I bit my lip and then glanced at Tate. “Being here with Tate feels pretty damn amazing. But I don’t know that I’d use the term ‘power couple’. We’re two people in love.”

“Two of the biggest stars in this town. That’s pretty powerful.”

“No, powerful is how this man makes me feel,” Tate replied and squeezed my waist. “And despite our celebrity, we’re like any other couple. Making great movies together is just a bonus.”

“What do you say to the reports that claim your relationship is purely a PR stunt for your next release?”

Tate raised his eyebrows and leaned into the mic. “I’d say they haven’t been paying attention for the past decade.”

And with that, Henn motioned for us to keep moving.

We waved to the crowd one last time.

“How about we really get the press going?” Tate asked me just before we stepped inside.

I looked at him, puzzled, until he pulled me in tight and laid a kiss on my lips.

Flashes popped like fireworks all around us.

But the only thing I saw was Tate.

Tate

Stepping into the Hollywood spotlight as a gay man was not at all what I imagined it would be.

When I looked around the venue, I recognized several openly queer actors and executives, some alone, some with their partners.

Back when I was just starting to make a name for myself, queer actors rarely commented on their personal life or showed up to events with their significant other. It was the big secret that no one talked about, but everyone knew.

But times had changed.

I’d changed too. It had taken a long time, but I had finally arrived.

And I was right. The press were eager for all the news about my relationship with Reed.

Now that walking the carpet was done, I could relax. Cocktail hour was well underway, and the room was filling up.

“I’m going to grab some water, you want anything?” I asked our entourage.

“Sparkling water and lime for me, please,” Reed replied.

“I’m fine,” Charlene said. “Henn?”
