“Mean.”

“That’s me,” I laughed and kissed him again.

This time Reed teased me with his wicked tongue and pushed me flat on my back. I forgot all about morning breath and why we needed to be up so early to begin with.

Until my phone buzzed again and rudely interrupted us.

We both groaned and pulled apart.

“You shower first, I’ll go fix breakfast,” I offered.

An hour later, both of us were clean, fed, and ready to go, so we took a rideshare to the set location, one of Oxford’s famous university buildings.

It was strange to get out of the car and not reach for Reed’s hand. What I’d carefully avoided in the past I now wanted more than anything.

It was going to take time to get used to this reality.

We made our way through security, and I jolted when I spotted a familiar figure talking to Jared.

“Korry!” Reed called out and walked over to give the bodyguard a hug.

Feeling all kinds of foolish given my behavior last night, I followed Reed.

Korry turned and gave me a slow once over. The smirk was unmistakable.

My face heated.

“Sorry about my horrible behavior last night,” I said as I offered my hand. “I was rude, and I hope you can accept my apology.”

Korry shook my hand readily.

“No worries,” he replied with a big grin. “Like I told Reed, I knew what I was doing. Did you guys have a good night?”

Good?

That was the understatement of the year. Of the decade.

“Very good. Thanks.”

My face was on fire.

I glanced at Reed, and he was as flushed as me. No, wait, that was beard burn. Then I noticed Jared staring at us.

“You okay, boss?” I quipped.

“Uh, yeah,” Jared nodded, thankfully saying nothing else. “Hair and makeup are expecting you.”

Reed and I hurried off down the narrow corridor of the building.

“Do you think Jared knows?” he whispered.

I glanced at Reed. “I’d be shocked if he didn’t. The fact that I turned bright red would’ve been the first clue. The fact that you have beard burn on your face is the second.”

“We can do this, right? Pretend we’re still just friends. I mean, we’re actors for fuck’s sake.”

“Definitely.”

Definitely not, as it turned out.
