“Oh!” She started to blush. “This is your bed. I didn’t mean?—"

“Shh, babe,” I hushed, trying to soften my features. “It’s our bed now,” I pointed out. “Get in and cozy up, honey,” I gently directed her, and she nodded.

“Okay,” she whispered. Like my good girl, she moved through our bedroom and made it to our bed.

I watched her pull the covers up and get comfortable. I turned and ignored the way my hands shook as I took out some clothes to sleep in. Usually, I slept in my boxers, but I had a feeling I’d really scare her off if I started to chuck my clothes off.

“I’m gonna go get changed,” I muttered as I made my way to the bathroom connected to our bedroom. For now, a stubborn voice whispered in my head. I shut the door behind me and turned on the shower hoping the ice-cold water would cool down the monster between my legs.

Sunny

Iwoke up slowly, feeling more relaxed than I had in a long time.

I felt a calmness in my soul and breathing almost felt easier. There was a chill in the air, but beneath me, there was heat I snuggled deeper into. Until that heat growled, and my eyes popped open.

“Shit!” I squeaked as I met the bright blue gaze of my future husband.

And just like that, the last couple of days came tumbling forward. Agreeing to be a mail-order bride to a stranger. Seeing the most beautiful man in the world from afar and finding out he was the man I had promised to marry.

“Sorry.” I started to pull away when March’s arms kept their hold of me. One hand on my back slid up my neck and into my hair, cupping my head perfectly without pulling or tugging at any strands.

“Don’t go.” His voice was rough with sleep. “It’s still early.”

“It is?” My eyes widened. I liked how his blue eyes gazed into mine before they dropped to my mouth and nose. Almost like he was cataloging my face for some reason.

“Very.” He shifted and gently pulled my body against his, and I had no other choice but to go with him. Who am I kidding? I was more than a willing participant.

“If you’re sure I’m not invading your personal bubble.” I winced at the way I rambled and couldn’t seem to stop making an idiot out of myself. He hitched my leg over his abdomen, and I moaned at what I felt pressed against my thigh.

“Does this feel like I mind?” His head dipped down, and his lips hovered over mine. For a split second, I was almost positive he was going to kiss me, and even more sure I was going to let him.

“March,” I whispered breathlessly as my eyes closed.

“Soon,” he whispered back. When my eyes opened, I wasn’t sure if he’d actually said the word or if I imagined it.

“Am I crowding you?” he asked, and I shook my head. “Good. Rest.” His hand carefully pushed my head down, and I rested my cheek against his T-shirt covered chest.

We lay there for a moment. It was hard to relax when I felt how hard and long he was. I had so much stuff running through my mind, and by the way his hand stroked the top of my head, his fingers twirling in and out of my hair, he seemed to be awake, too.

“Sunny?” He broke the silence, and I sighed contently against his chest.

“Yeah?”

“You still good with us getting married?” For some reason, I felt my body relax. His talented fingers kept threading through my hair, and it felt incredible.

“I am,” I answered softly. “Even though, if I’m being honest, I don’t know why you’re doing it.”

“I told you, my grandfather—" My hand moved to his chest, and I lifted my head. Our eyes connected.

“I know that. I just mean… it doesn’t make sense to me. I mean…” I could feel my face start to warm up. “You’re not bad to look at.”

“I could say the same about you, sunshine.”

“Sunny,” I corrected. “I just mean… why a mail-order bride?” I settled back against his chest. I loved looking into his eyes, but there was something intimate about talking these things out cuddled up.

Almost like it was us against the world somehow.

Like we were a team.
