The hand I had under her chin slid to hold her cheek, and whether she realized it or not, she leaned into my touch.

“I saw you first,” I shared and watched her eyes soften. “You were on the top story, about to head down the escalator, when you stopped to put on your coat,” I spoke softly. “And I swear I about kicked myself in the ass.”

“Why?” she breathed and leaned in closer.

“Baby, I never asked you how I would know it was you. I had no idea who you were. Then there is this beautiful woman who I had no business feeling attracted to. Not when I was waiting on you. And when our eyes connected? Fuck.” I took her hand in mine and lifted it to my chest, resting it right over my heart. “I felt it right here.” She blinked but didn’t say a word, so I kept talking. “I felt like an asshole because I’m waiting for someone yet feeling something for a stranger.”

“March—"

“Then, as you stood there waiting for your bag, I knew. I knew it was you. I had no idea how, but I did.”

“So… you’re saying you weren’t disappointed? Honestly?” My heart fluttered in my chest. Fluttered. I was a forty-year-old man, for god’s sakes, and there I was, feeling like a schoolgirl with a serious crush.

“No.” I shook my head. “Not even a little bit, beautiful.”

“Oh.” She swallowed. “Okay, then.” She chewed on her lower lip, and I was half tempted to pull it out with the pad of my thumb and bite it myself.

Somehow, I managed to stay where I was. Soon, a voice whispered with promise. Soon, she’ll be mine in every meaning of the word.

“If you’re sure you don’t want to change your mind about…” She hesitated for a moment, and my dick started to strain against my jeans.

I wanted her to hear her say it. I needed her to tell me what we were going to do.

“About us getting married.”

“I haven’t. You’re going to be my wife, Sunny Castro,” I rasped as I tried to keep my breathing as steady as I could manage. I still couldn’t believe my luck. My eyes jumped to the bed. “Are you ready to go to sleep?” I asked and watched her blink slowly.

I had no idea what I was doing. I was a planner by nature, but in that moment, I was winging it. The idea of sleeping with her had taken root. I’d be damned if I didn’t. Every night from there on out she would rest her head on the pillow next to mine. Forever.

“Yeah,” she answered and snapped me out of the head.

“Okay, baby, what side you want?” I asked gently.

“Oh!” Her eyes widened and bounced to the bed, to me, then back to the bed. And once again, she chewed on that full bottom lip. “Umm, I don’t know.” Her eyes locked with mine.

“Where do you usually sleep?”

“On the left, but wherever you want?—"

“Then that’s where you’re going to sleep,” I interrupted and pointed at the bed. “Get in bed and get comfy, yeah?”

“Oh, okay… umm…” She stopped, and I intertwined our fingers. I pulled her in closer and found myself doing the last thing I would have ever thought since I was put in this position. I smiled.

“What is it?” I asked, needing to make sure she was okay with everything that was happening.

“I just, umm… I’ve never, umm… I’ve never slept—" she started to say, and my body went stock still.

“You mean overnight?” I asked, and she hesitated.

That hesitation had me thinking she meant something else.

Something bigger and more beautiful than I could have ever expected. Not that I would have ever cared or passed judgment. At my age, I had my share of experience. Was she telling me she was a virgin? Her? The woman looked like she did and was a twenty-five-year-old virgin?

“Right,” she chirped. She wasn’t lying, but she was keeping something to herself. Something I had a feeling she’d held on to for whatever reason. Something I had no right wanting to claim, but I knew I’d have it.

She would be mine.

“Umm…” I cleared my throat. “I will make sure to keep to my side.”
