Me: Good morning, cutie.

Spencer: It’s too early to be cute.

I chuckled. For those first couple of days I’d spent with him, I assumed his grouchy, pouty demeanor in the mornings was because he was sick, but when he woke up pretty much recovered on Sunday morning and his mood was no better, I realized my boy was not a morning person. In the beginning, he’d feigned cheerfulness in our text exchanges, but I was happy to see he’d gotten comfortable enough to let the real him show, even if the real him was a grouchy bug.

Me: Early? I’ve been up for hours. Hell, I already have half my day’s work done.

Spencer: Better you than me. I just woke up.

Me: What are you doing tonight?

Spencer: Tonight? Nothing, why?

Me: I thought maybe we could go out for dinner.

Spencer: Sounds good.

Me: How about seven?

Spencer: Sounds great. I need to get ready for work, but I’ll see you at seven.

Me: Okay, don’t forget to eat breakfast.

Spencer: *eye-roll emoji* Yes, Daddy.

Chapter 16

Spencer

Nash and I had spent enough time together that you would think the giddy excitement of us going out would have faded, but it hadn’t. Maybe because it all still seemed too good to be real, and I wanted to enjoy the time we had together until he realized he could find another boy who would give him what he really wanted.

I had no idea where we were headed, but none of the places in River Gorge were fancy, so my decision to take extra time getting ready was all about wanting Nash to appreciate the way I looked. Which was why I found myself standing by my bed in a towel with clothes spread everywhere like a nervous teenage girl when my phone rang. I snatched it up to send the call to voicemail because hearing it ring while I ignored it made me feel guilty, but before I hit the button, I checked the caller ID.

Nathan. I hit answer instead of sending him to voicemail. I knew he probably wanted to talk about the anniversary party he and my pops were planning, and that could wait, but I was glad to hear from him. He was one of my favorite people.

“Hey, Nathan, what’s up?” I asked, putting him on speaker and tossing the phone on the bed.

“Not much, kiddo. I just hadn’t talked to you in a few weeks and wanted to see how things were going.”

“Good. I’m getting ready to go on a date.”

“Oh, well, I don’t want to keep you then.”

“No, it’s fine. I’m almost ready, and I have a few minutes before he gets here.” I decided on my dark blue button-up with my fuck me jeans and my black ankle boots. They had a slight heel, but even with that extra inch, I’d barely come up to Nash’s chest. It shouldn’t thrill me so much that he was that much bigger than me, but it did. I loved knowing that he was big enough to manhandle me if he…or if I wanted.

“So is this the cowboy your pops told me about?” Nathan might be a happily married man with children, but he still loved to gossip. He was the only person in my family who knew all about my preferences and that I had entertained the idea of having a Daddy. Not that I gave him the details of my sex life or anything, but he was the one person I trusted most to give me advice about that kind of thing.

“I assume so. I haven’t dated anyone else since I came to River Gorge.”

“Well, come on, don’t hold out on me. Tell me all about him. Better yet, send me a picture first so I have a mental image. You do have a picture, don’t you?”

I chuckled and shook my head. “I do. Hold on.”

I grabbed my phone and opened up my pictures, choosing a selfie we’d taken the night we went to the art walk and sent it to him.

“Oohh,” he said with a sigh. “He’s pretty.”

“He is not. He’s hot as fuck, but he isn’t pretty,” I said, laughing.
