It makes me think again about how much can change in a month. I went from uncertainty and apprehension to joy and eagerness to begin. Our town always unites, but this is bringing us together in a way I’ve never seen before.

The air stirs as Aunt Eileen, Vivian, and Martha walk inside the room. These three are always up to no good, and I soon see them with their heads together as they whisper furiously, making me laugh. I’m not sure what they’re up to, but no doubt it’s something bad. They approve of this resort too, but something else is on their minds. I’ll figure it out, hopefully before it’s too late.

A few more hours pass before we finish the interviews and the crowd starts to disperse. I’m so tired I remain in my seat. We have to wait to clear out the gym once the last people leave. I notice Aunt Eileen is among the last to exit. I let out a breath when the gym doors close, finally leaving Callan and me alone.

“That was a long fun day,” Callan says, looking as tired as I feel.

“Yes, it was. Let’s gather our stuff and head to the safety of home,” I say with a chuckle. We gather our items and move to the gym doors. I press on them and frown.

“What’s wrong?” he asks.

“It’s locked,” I say, looking at him with confusion.

“I didn’t think they could be locked from the outside,” he says as he pushes. Sure enough the doors are locked. I glare at the door.

“Aunt Eileen,” I grumble.

He looks at me with confusion. “What?”

“I knew those three ladies were up to something. Those mischievous women have locked us in.”

“Why?”

“They get bored easily.” I can’t help but laugh.

“They know someone will come let us out,” he tells me.

“They most likely will be right outside laughing as we get rescued.” He lifts his phone and makes a call, then looks at me with confusion.

“What?”

“That was the fire chief. He said it will be at least an hour.”

“What are they possibly doing that will take that long?”

He still looks confused. “He said they’re in the middle of dinner.”

I laugh. “Aunt Eileen called him. That traitor.”

“I didn’t know it was possible for a rescue not to happen.”

“Are you changing your mind on building here? This will happen a lot. There are a lot of jokesters in this town.” I hope he isn’t changing his mind. Now that I’m on board, I love this project.

He goes from confused to mischievous in a heartbeat. I don’t know what he’s thinking. “You know,” he says as he takes a step toward me. “I’ve always wanted to get naughty behind the bleachers.”

I burst out in laughter. “That’s so not going to happen, Callan. It’s filthy beneath those things.” He doesn’t look deterred.

“You’re always telling me to be impulsive. I’m embracing the moment,” he says, the twinkle in his eyes growing.

Callan takes a step toward me, and I let out a burst of laughter as I turn and make a run for it, our laughter echoing off the empty gym walls. He snatches me out of the air and takes me behind the bleachers without further protest, pulls me into his arms, and begins kissing me.

I’m immediately lost in his arms as he backs me against the wall, his hand traveling up my shirt and gripping my breast. I kiss him harder as I reach for his clothes. My protest didn’t last long at all.

“Now,” I tell him as I yank on the button on his jeans while he pulls on my slacks. I’m not sure how we get our pants off without letting go of each other, but we do.

He pulls me up, and I wrap my legs around him. He thrusts inside of me and I let out a cry as he starts pushing in and out of me, our bodies locked tight as we press against the wall. I’ve never done anything like this before, and the taboo makes it so much better.

It doesn’t take long before we’re both crying out our releases. He holds me tight against him as I shake in his arms. He pulls back and looks at me, his smile turned up to full wattage. I giggle.
