Liam wasn’t sure he agreed. His heart raced thinking about leaving this behind and returning to what? Nothing that made him happy. Constant work. Demanding family. Clearly, he wasn’t ready to be done with his Monterrey adventure.

They discussed the menu, and the waiter offered a couple of specials. Nothing that sounded fantastic to any of them.

After ordering, they sat in silence.

Callie excused herself and came back with a pen and paper.

“Working?” Liam asked.

“No, I thought I’d challenge you to a game of tic-tac-toe, but I don’t promise to lose like Meg.”

“Thanks for that, Cal.” Meg shook her head with fake irritation.

“No problem, Meg.” They flipped a coin for the starter position. Callie was up. “Do you play anything besides tic-tac-toe?”

Liam settled an “X” in the corner of the hashtag. “I’m not bad at Scrabble or Boggle, but I draw a hard and fast line at playing ‘Go Fish’. I’ve been burned badly at that game.”

Callie smiled, and he wondered if he’d ever not miss her face… and her.

“Well, since ‘Go Fish’ is technically a game of chance over skill, I can understand your hesitancy to attempt mastering it.”

“And you?”

“Love Boggle, and I play competitive tic-tac-toe on an app on my phone, but my favorite game is Mancala.”

“I’d love to learn that one.”

Her long chocolate-colored lashes flashed at him. “I’d be glad to teach you.”

He focused on the game. “I’m taking you down.”

Callie smiled. “In your dreams, Young.”

She was right. His dreams included this woman, and he wasn’t sure what to do about it.

Five games later, he’d bested her in three. He placed his arm on her chair, and she leaned back against it. His fingers absentmindedly stroked the bare skin of her arm.

“Sam, do you have any special requirements for the plane?” Callie asked.

Sam leaned back in his chair with his arms crossed. “Well, let’s see…”

Liam kicked him under the table.

“Ouch, what the—” Sam grimaced and reached to his leg.

“No, he’s fine.” Encouraging the lying wasn’t going to happen.

“I hope you found the Milk Duds and bourbon in your room?” Meg asked.

“Those were from you?”

Callie slipped her napkin into her lap. “Technically, Hera Aviation, but Meg takes care of making sure all our clients have an enjoyable experience, and Liam requested them.”

“That’s the private jet company you fly for?” Sam asked.

“The private jet company she owns,” Liam corrected.

“Cool, impressive. Congratulations.”
