She understood. It was the inevitable, but they had right now. “You talk to Brittney about what time we’ll get back in?”

“Yeah, I think we’ll have to go straight to the rehearsal, but that’s okay. I’d love for you to come to the wedding with me.”

“Really?”

“Unless you have to get back to Denver.”

They could pay to house the plane at the airfield for the night.

One night.

Every plan they made felt like one step closer to the end, but she couldn’t think about that right now. There was something so perfect here, and to deny them of living in the moment wouldn’t be fair. Adults went down paths that sometimes didn’t work out, but you still enjoyed the journey all the same.

Callie leaned to his ear, her lips brushing the drop of his earlobe. “Want to take the dessert back to your room and play another game?”

He nodded. “Like?”

“Strip tic-tac-toe?”

“Like you wouldn’t believe. I’ll have the waiter box this up and pay the bill.”

She pulled out his room keycard and waved it in his face. “I’ll go get comfortable.”

Breath mint. Check. Mood lighting. Check. Naked. Check. In his bed that smells like him. Double check.

She’d already won by being naked first.

Callie stared up at the ceiling. What was taking him so long?

She rolled to her side when the front door opened. This was it. She was ready to make this night memorable.

“Callie?”

“I’m back here.”

Liam stopped in the doorway. “What game are we playing again?”

“The one where you get on top of me, and fuck me until I scream out your name?” The brazen—and she hoped cock-hardening—words slipped from her lips, and she didn’t regret them for a second.

Dimples deepened as he smiled broadly. “Screw tic-tac-toe. That’s my favorite game.” He held up that iconic square box that was a game changer.

Thank God he remembered.

She scanned her gaze down his body. Models couldn’t look more perfect.

She pulled the covers up on her chest.

“Are you naked under there, Captain Laurel?” Liam kicked off his shoes.

“What do you think?”

He stepped to the edge of the bed. “I really wanted to undress you myself, is what I think. Unwrap you, taking my time.” His fingers slipped under her chin. “But I’m not complaining. Naked is good.” He bent down and like a balloon meeting the sky, pressed a soft kiss to her lips.

Finding the right words with a man in bed had never been easy for her, but the moment meant so much to her.

“I know that the way we found each other isn’t under the best circumstances, with Sam’s health, but I’m very thankful that you’re here.” Callie clamped her mouth shut. Why had she mentioned his dying brother?

Liam turned around and returned to close the door. “Can we not talk about Sam?” He leaned back against the closed door.
