“Bro! Hey, you done in there?” Sam rapped on the door.

“Just a minute.” Liam sat up in bed.

After tying the robe sash, Callie gathered her dress and shoes. “I’ll let you know what we figure out about leaving earlier.”

“Thanks, Callie.” He jumped off the bed and met her at the door. “Thanks for last night, too.”

“I had a great time, Liam. I want you to know that I’ll never regret it.”

Their kisses always seemed to lead to more, so he pressed his lips to her forehead instead and opened the door.

Sam leaned back against the wall on the other side of the hall. “Hey, Callie.”

“Hey, Sam. You look a little tired. You feeling okay? We’ll try our hardest to get you back to Omaha today.”

Damn you, Trent.

Her sincerity dug into Liam. She was the real deal. They could be the real deal.

Sam yawned and blinked his eyes. “Your friend kept me up all night.”

“Sam, a little discretion, please.” Liam pushed past him to let Callie out of the room. “I’m going to walk Callie out.”

In the hallway, Callie turned around and smiled at Sam. “Your big brother might be a little grouchy today.” She whispered his way, “I kept him up all night, too.”

Sam chuckled. “I’ll go take a shower and meet you in the living room, Liam.”

They walked to the front door, and Liam couldn’t help himself. He slipped an arm around her and waited until he had her attention before kissing her like she deserved. Her tongue tangled with his, making his body rocket to attention.

“Down, boy, you’ve done good,” Callie said, backing away. “I’ll talk to you when I know something.”

It would be the longest wait of his life.

Their return flight was scheduled for takeoff at 12:10 PM, so there was no time for anything before they had to leave the hotel and head back to the hangar. He’d been so preoccupied with getting everything ready to go that he hadn’t called Britt back.

Sam reluctantly boarded the plane, but once inside he came around quickly as he realized his dream of accomplishing the Mile High Club might be a step closer. Meg assured him it wasn’t as close as he imagined.

Sam sighed and mumbled, “A dying man can dream,” prompting Liam to land a quick kick to Sam’s ass behind Meg’s back.

His perpetuation of the charade made Liam nauseous.

Soon they taxied to the runway.

Liam’s phone buzzed.

Britt: Everything’s okay. I talked to Trent. He says the woman was helping him with a surprise for the wedding and he doesn’t want to spoil it.

Liam wanted to believe Trent for his sister’s sake. She genuinely cared about him. But Brittney didn’t need Trent to raise the baby. She’d be a phenomenal mother whether they were married or not. Liam couldn’t imagine any man cheating on his pregnant wife, but he also couldn’t imagine anyone cheating on Callie, and Trent had accomplished that less-than-impressive feat.

The liftoff was flawless and the flight to Vegas calm. Liam decided not to visit the cockpit. He was a distraction, and he would be distracted, too. If she wanted to see him, she could come from behind the curtain.

After they landed, the refueling ran smoothly. Hera Aviation excelled in planning and prep and the extra special touches that he understood would set them apart.

“How’s the flight, Mr. Young?” Her playful voice made him smile.

“Captain Laurel, I’m not going to lie. On the way to Mexico, I got this fantastic extra special treatment. This return trip is a little less impressive.”
