“Really?” Jason stopped, pivoted. “What about the big wedding we had planned?”

She halted, too, and gestured to the grand ballroom all around them. “What could be bigger than this? All our friends are here, and everyone who matters.” Pat had invited not only her siblings, but their extended family as well. To an extent that seemed almost suspicious… “A wedding would make a great ending to our story,” she mused.

“On the contrary–” He grasped her hand, pulling her close to those towering muscles. “Our story is only just beginning.”

Yes, it was.

“Look at the lovebirds.”

Dara and Jason shared a laugh, and then matching grins, as Kaitlyn and Cameron Drake approached, hand in hand. The ladies shared hugs and the men gave firm handshakes, and then hugs as well. Since the gala where she met the Billionaires of Miami, Dara had grown close to the different couples. They were kind and giving, enigmatic and intelligent, with unique stories of first meetings and unusual courtships. Secret identities, hidden billionaires and more – it truly was romance novel fare.

“We’re not the only lovebirds,” Dara teased the married couple, who hadn’t left each other’s sides the whole evening. “You literally define true love.”

Cameron moaned, yet his eyes shone with love. “You cannot call a CEO a lovebird. As for true love…” His gaze softened as he looked at his wife. “I am quite guilty.” He lifted Kaitlyn’s hand and placed a soft kiss on her knuckles.

It was hard to believe that when Kaitlyn met Cameron, she thought he was an actor she hired to be her boyfriend. He didn’t correct her until after they had fallen in love. In reality, Cameron was head of one of the most successful law firms in the country, with its largest division dedicated to charitable endeavors. He collaborated with the Dragons on their altruistic efforts.

A waiter passed by with a silver tray, covered in a pastry wonderland: raspberry chocolate petit fours, fluffy cream puffs and thick cookies covered in fudge and caramel. Dara took a petit four, sighing as she bit into a chocolate masterpiece. “These are amazing.”

“Thank you.”

Dara swallowed the piece, wished for a million more. She pointed at her friend. “That’s right. You made these, didn’t you? I’ll take a million to go.”

“I’m not sure I can accommodate that order.” Kaitlyn laughed. “Even with several more bakeries scheduled to open, that’s still a lot.”

“Doesn’t sound like a lot to me,” Dara joked. “I definitely would like some for my wedding, whenever we manage to get that together.”

“You don’t say.” Kaitlyn exchanged a glance with her husband. “Did I ever tell you about our nuptials? I didn’t actually know I was getting married until that da–”

“Darling, Elora and Royce are calling us over. We better go.” Without another word, Cameron grasped his wife’s hand and led her away.

Dara blinked. What was that about? She turned to ask Jason what he thought, when another couple walked up. “Look who it is.” The lady winked. “It’s the lovebirds.”

“Did they put that on a flashing neon sign somewhere?” Dara laughed as she hugged Adrianna and Dominick, another member of the Billionaires of Miami. Like most of the men, the towering businessman wore a crisp tuxedo, while Adrianna stunned in a sparkling blue sequined gown. With billowy sleeves and an attached wraparound cape, it was a little looser than the style the woman normally wore. Interesting.

“No sign is necessary when you’re so obviously in love.” Adrianna softly cradled her stomach with her hand. Did she even realize it? It seemed not, as she tracked Dara’s gaze, and then pulled her hand back. Her cheeks tinged pink. Very interesting.

Dara smiled… widely. “Anything new happenin–”

“I’m pregnant! Can you tell? Is it obvious? I’m not supposed to say anything, but I want to tell the whole wide world.”

Dara squealed and hugged her, while Jason gave hearty congratulations. Dominick shook his head, but his eyes were smiling. “Sweetheart, you said you wanted to wait.”

“She forced it out of me,” Adrianna protested. “It’s like she’s a spy.”

Dara chuckled, but Jason’s expression took on mock seriousness. He leaned forward. “Could you imagine Dara as a spy? She’d have to find some sort of undercover name. Perhaps Athena?”

“Sounds perfect.” Dara squeezed his hand, then turned back to her friends. “We’re so happy for you. You’re going to make amazing parents.”

“Thank yo–”

“Did someone say amazing parents?” Suddenly half a dozen older ladies appeared behind the couple, carrying various plates filled with food. They stared, some with mouths agape, other with mouths opening and closing. For a moment there was silence and then… an explosion.

“You’re pregnant!”

“Oh wonderful day!”

“Best news ever!”
