After a few minutes, she returned to her own story, back to the man who made her heart quicken. Jason opened his arms and captured her. “I’ve been looking everywhere for you.”

If once his attention bothered her, now it just brought joy and delight. “Don’t worry, my love. I am never leaving.”

“And I never plan on letting you go.” He winked, then steered her so they were walking to the front. Strange, it almost seemed like the crowd was watching them, more than typical.

She studied his strong profile. “Is something happening? People are looking at us.” No, not just looking. Pointing. Whispering. Smiling.

“They’re just excited for tonight’s big event.”

She pushed aside her suspicions. Surely, there was a logical explanation. “Is the band doing something? I still can’t believe you got Carter Wyld. He usually plays arenas with sixty thousand fans. I am definitely starstruck.”

Now her alpha male gazed at her with a dangerous look in his eyes. He edged closer, straight into her space, now his space, or better yet their space. “I’m a world-famous catcher. Aren’t you starstruck by me?”

More than he could ever know. But instead she gave a cheeky grin, as he brought her even closer. Lovebirds may be an old-fashioned term, but perhaps it did have some accuracy.

Who was she kidding? They were the definition of lovebirds.

“Actually, they’re excited for something even more special than a movie or rock star.”

She gestured to the lavish festivities. “The World Series Party?”

“Well, that and our wedding.”

She stopped. Just stopped. And so did the world, but she didn’t really notice. “Our wedding?” she whispered. “But we don’t even know when we’re getting married or where or–”

“You’re right.” He rubbed his chin. “There’s only one solution. We should just get married now.”

Now the entire universe stopped.

“Did you just say–”

“It really makes sense.”

“That we should get married–”

“I mean there’s no reason not to.”

“Right here, right now?”

“Since you suggested it, I agree.”

What was happening?

Now he turned, and his eyes shone like diamond stars. “Since the moment you said yes, I’ve been counting the seconds until we made it official. I want to shout it to the world, to proclaim that you are my forever. The wedding plans have only caused stress – you’ve said so yourself a hundred times. I don’t want to wait another minute.”

Neither did she. The prospect of getting married now, of no longer worrying about a wedding, was absolutely wonderful. But still… “I’d love to do this, but it’s impossible. We need paperwork and all the other details.”

He waved his hand. “We can take care of that tomorrow. But the most important part, where we stand before our loved ones and make our promises, now that is everything. I made sure they would all be here.”

So that’s why they invited their extended family. This had been planned a lot longer than tonight.

“It’s up to you.” He held out his hand. “If you want to wait and do the whole big thing, I will. It doesn’t matter how long it takes.” His gaze held all the truths – and love – in the universe. “I would wait forever for you.”

And she for him. Yet now they didn’t have to. She lifted her chin. “Ask me again.”

His smile was as wide as the starry sky shining outside the skylights. He held out his hand. “Dara Everett, will you do me the honor of being my wife?”

She blinked at the man she loved with all her heart, the man who was her heart, and gave the only response possible, “I do.”

His smile was pure happiness as he turned to the crowd. “Who wants to see us get married?” The cheers were deafening, as he turned back to her. “Ready?”

She took his hand. “Ready.”

And as they journeyed down the aisle toward the future, a forever path of endless love, two stars twinkled outside the window, sparkling pure joy, for as always, they were with her.
