Shaking my head, I nip at her fingertips. “You’re asking for a spanking with cheek like that.”

She lets out a small squeal of laughter and tries to tug her hand away, but there’s no way in hell I’m going to release her fingers. Instead, I drop our hands down to rest over the center console.

“Of course, we can. Technically, we co-own it with Hawke and his partners, too.”

“What? Like some sort of murderer’s time-share situation?” Fox is still sniggering as she traces the veins on the back of my hand with her free one.

I could fucking soak in a bath of all her small touches and never get sick of having her softness wrapped around me.

“More like an insurance policy. Somewhere any of us could go if we ever needed to lay low for a while.”

Fox keeps stroking my hand, but I spot the way she twists her lips.

“Which is why you took me there after the threats started coming.”

“Something like that.”

God, I wish we could be there right now. “Maybe after this is all over, we can go. Stay there a while, even.”

Her face brightens at my words. Leaving me far too hungry for more of that exact expression.

“Would the others come, do you think?”

I love how she still tries to pretend they’re not obsessed and entirely captivated by her. Or like they’re not so completely wrapped around her little finger that they would follow her through the pits of hell if she so much as batted an eyelash at those two broody fucks.

“Can I tell you something?” I rub my thumb over her soft palm, keeping our fingers loosely intertwined.

Fox looks at me a little suspiciously. “Only if it’s something good.”

“Trust me. It’s more than good.” I wet my lips for a second. “You said you don’t remember anything from the night you were drugged at the club…the night we got to meet your horny little alter-ego.”

She turns about five different shades of crimson and makes a strangled noise.

“Please don’t torture me with that. I can’t even face what I might have said or done. It’s so embarrassing.”

“There was definitely nothing to be embarrassed about…I’ll play with your dirty little demon side anytime you want.”

“Ugh. Is there a point to this? Or are you every bit an asshole enjoying watching me squirm?”

“Maybe both.” I chuckle. “But in all seriousness, that night, there were some things that became pretty damn clear to me.”

She’s still looking suspicious.

“First, was that if anyone so much as touches a hair on your head, you would have the three of us ready to tear the entire world apart, just for you.”

“Oh.” Fox shifts in her seat, looking a little hesitant. Like she doesn’t fully believe me that we would do that for her. This girl has had a lifetime feeling like no one, or nothing cared for her. And that shit is over.

“Then the second, was that you gave me—all of us—something that night, but you don’t remember. Although I’m pretty sure it was the truth hidden away and so tightly guarded you never want anyone to know it exists.”

There’s a softness in her face as I glance out of the corner of my eye.

I want to tell her.

I don’t think I can keep on acting like she didn’t say those words, and I didn’t say them back to her that night without a second’s hesitation. Because I meant every single one of them, and she deserves to have that certainty as we get through this Pledging and then figure out whatever the fuck we’re doing with our lives.

Whatever life looks like on the other side of Thorne Calliano’s plan. I sure as shit know that my version, and theirs, too, has her firmly involved in it. Not as a payment or a debt, but as someone endlessly important.

Fox is someone I can’t breathe without.
