“Hi, Aunt Lidi!” Hailey chirped loudly. “Mom! Aunt Lidi is here!”

“Jesus, banshee,” Jessica scoffed. “Yell louder next time. I don’t think they heard you in Australia. Go find your brothers and make sure they are behaving.”

“Aw, mom,” Hailey groaned. “Can’t I go play with Cameron and Caleb?”

“After the wedding, now go do as I asked.”

“I’m not a babysitter, ya know?” the impertinent little girl walked away muttering under her breath.

“If Savage knows what’s good for him, this kid better be another boy. I can’t handle another girl,” Jess said, stepping to the side to let me in. “So, what brings you by on this crazy ass day?”

“Frank’s grandmother wants us to marry.”

Jessica doubled over, laughing.

“It’s not funny, Jess! The woman is nuts.”

“Wait till she hears about the bun in your oven. She’s gonna go ballistic. Can’t say I disagree with her, Lidi. Just march back over there and tell that tall drink of water the truth. You already know he likes you.”

Taking a seat, I sighed. “Whatever. I can’t think about that shit right now. Change the subject.”

Jessica walked over, sitting next to me. “Well, I still haven’t heard from Savage or the others. Neither have the other wives. We’re getting worried.”

“You said they were heading back to California, right?”

“Yeah. That is where they believe Solomon is heading. Jesus, Lidi, everything is a big mess. Half the club in Tennessee, the other half in California, and no one knows where Solomon or Sunny are at.”

“He will call. He always does.”

“It’s not just that. Something is going on. Something big.”

“Another club war?”

“Who knows? It’s not like the Golden Skulls are the poster children of all things good and kind. Don’t get me wrong. I can handle club life. I grew up in this life. But the Golden Skulls are nothing like my uncle’s MC. They are like night and day.”

“Have you talked with Savage about this?”

Jess sighed. “No. He’s got a lot on his plate right now. I just hope that whatever is going on isn’t too bad. I don’t think I can handle another war like the one with the Society. That almost tore the club apart.”

“What about your brother?” I asked. “Have you heard from him?”

“Reaper? Hell no, and if he knows what’s good for him, he will fix what he broke, and fast. So, have you given any thought to the doctor Sugar and I suggested? He seems qualified and is happy with relocating to Virginia.”

“I’ve set up an interview for after the wedding. I’m hoping he works out because I have that home inspection coming up and I can’t risk losing Charlie.”

“You won’t lose Charlie.”

“You don’t know that, Jess.”

“Oh yes I do.” My friend grinned. “Because I know of a six- and half-foot man with muscles for days that will never let that happen. But seriously, Lidi, just tell him. You know it’s the right thing to do. And let’s face it, you will feel better once you do.”

“Just breathe.” I sighed, rolling my eyes. “That’s it. In through the nose and out through the mouth.”

“This is embarrassing,” Bailey scoffed as she slapped her bestie upside the back of the head. The brothers were losing their shit as they laughed uncontrollably. “Man the fuck up.”

“Seriously, dude. And you call yourself a man.” Cameron frowned, disgruntled, as Scribe continued to breathe into the bag. “You’re supposed to be a manly man. Grow some balls!”

“CAMERON!” Skylar shouted, clapping her hand over her brother’s mouth, which only had everyone laughing louder, including me.
