“Crap,” I muttered, looking back at my brother, who still hadn’t woken up yet.

“Enigma was the last person to see her. Mike said when he found Enigma, he was the only person in the car. He’s got people out looking for Sugar, but so far nothing. Valhalla has offered Arsyn and Kytten to help with the search, but no one knows where to start.”

“And only Enigma can tell you where he stashed her,” I surmised.

“Yes.”

“Frank,” Valhalla added. “I want to give Enigma something to wake him. His latest scans show nothing wrong with his brain. Normally, we would allow the body to wake on its own, but with Sugar’s ex still unaccounted for, she is in danger. We need to find her before that asshole does. Do you think Claudia will allow me to administer the medication?”

“I don’t know,” I sighed, rubbing the back of my neck. “She’s very protective of her brother. Have you tried calling their parents?”

“I have and they’ve deferred all treatment to Claudia. They said she is the doctor and will know what’s best.”

“So, you want me to talk Lidi into waking her brother?”

“Yes.”

Nodding, I reentered Enigma’s room to find Claudia in the same spot I left her in, sitting next to him, holding his hand.

“Lidi?”

“You’re not waking him up,” she deadpanned, never taking her eyes off him. “I heard everything. I know Sugar is missing. I get that, but I won’t risk my brother’s life. He will wake up soon. I know it and then you can ask him.”

“Lidi.” King stepped forward. “Enigma would want Sugar safe. You know that. She is one of your best friends. We all grew up together. Can you honestly sit there and do nothing knowing she’s out there alone with that asshole looking for her? You know what he did to her, Lidi.”

Claudia slowly hung her head as a lone tear rolled down her cheek. “I know, Callum. I worked to save her.”

“Claudia,” Valhalla whispered. “I would never even suggest this option if I didn’t believe your brother wouldn’t survive. He’s strong and his vitals are good. His last scans were normal.”

“I know. I saw them,” she whispered when we all heard Enigma moan right before he opened his eyes.

Claudia quickly sat up, hovering over him as Valhalla rushed to his side, checking his vitals.

“Come on, Eugene. Wake up.”

“Stop shouting. I’m dying over here,” Enigma moaned, grimacing as Valhalla shined a light in his eyes.

“Jesus, woman, leave me alone,” Enigma said, slapping Valhalla’s hand away.

“Mr. James, my name is Dr. Robinette.”

“No, it’s Valhalla. What the hell is going on?” Eugene asked, moving away from the woman while he looked around the room, before gasping. “Oh fuck. I knew it. I got stung by a bee again. Was it a hive this time? I knew those little bastards would kill me one day.”

Claudia rolled her eyes, shaking her head as she sat back down. “He’s fine.”

“Eugene, can you tell me where you are?” Valhalla asked.

“In the hospital, clinging to life because of a fucking bee. See, Lidi, I told you they were going to kill me one day. How long do I got? Days, weeks, months? Tell me straight, Doc.”

“You didn’t get stung by a bee, you idiot. You were in a car accident.”

“Oh, is that all?” Enigma sighed, settling back into the bed. “So why all the long faces?”

“Enigma,” King groaned, then got right to the point. “Where is Sugar?”

“Why?” he cautiously asked, his face stern.

“Because she’s not at the distillery and we can’t find her,” King challenged.
