“Are you planning on rejecting her?” Drew asked. It was a reasonable question.

“No.”

“Good.” Elliot’s gruff voice sounded behind him.

“Fuck! How the hell do you sneak up on people? You’re a freaking hulk.”

Toweling off his hair, Elliot stood in his boxers, giving an amused smile.

“Hey, Elliot!” Fredrica waved through the screen.

Draping the towel around his shoulders, Elliot grinned. “Hey, squirt.”

Callum rolled his eyes. Fredrica was in no way a squirt, but to Elliot, likely everyone would fit that definition.

“Tell us about Callum’s mate!” His sister demanded.

Twisting to look at his cousin, Callum raised a brow. “Please do. Some enlightenment would be nice.”

Elliot considered them. Drew, Fredrica and his housemate. He shrugged his shoulders. “She’s the daughter of Thatcher’s beta. She’s been conditioned and groomed to be the perfect mate, which includes virginal, a point Norman prides himself on.”

Drew’s gaze narrowed. “And Norman is?”

“Vivian’s father,” Elliot supplied.

“And Thatcher’s beta,” Callum added.

“And what are Norman’s plans for his daughter?”

“We’re not sure.” Elliot grabbed the ends of the towel. “But his plans no longer matter. She’s found her mate.”

Drew looked skeptical. “How has he taken the news?”

“He doesn’t know yet,” Callum admitted. “She wants us to keep it a secret while we get to know each other.”

Fredrica deflated. “You’re not coming home?”

“Not yet.” Callum tried to smile. “But soon I hope.”

Drew glanced down at his phone. “Excuse me for a moment.”

When he vacated the desk chair, Fredrica immediately took his place. A moment later, Callum heard the office door close.

His phone buzzed. Pulling it from his pocket, he saw Drew’s name across the screen. Getting up from the couch, Callum headed to the front door. He nodded at Elliot. “Hey, why don’t you tell Fredrica about Sydney’s news?”

Elliot’s eyes narrowed, but switched his attention to the screen when Fredrica wondered, “What’s up with Syd?”

Slipping out the door, Callum walked down the steps and answered the call. “Hey.”

“I want you to get back here as soon as you can.”

“Why? What’s wrong?”

“My beta is in another country, being roped into a cult. That’s what’s wrong!”

Callum snickered. “It’s not a cult.”

There was no humor in Drew’s voice. “Isn’t that the first thing they teach you to say?”
