Bex: Group?

Selene: Yeah! Me, Gunnar, Durante, Reka, and Symon are all on our way. Didn’t I tell you?

Bex: No . . . you did not.

Selene: Oops! Well, they helped us pack Naomi up.

Bex: What do you mean, helped you pack? I thought you were just bringing some of her things. How much could there possibly be to pack up?

Selene: Well, yeah. About that . . .

Bex: Selene . . .

Selene: Got to go. Gunnar needs me to drive.

Bex: Liar.

Bex: Gunnar hasn’t let you drive a car in the three years y’all’ve known each other.

Bex: Selene.

Bex: Selene Aracely Solis de Estrella!

I grumble to myself as I walk through the house to find Alvie in his workshop. I pounce as soon as I’m through the door.

“We have both Selene and Gunnar on their way, but Durante, Reka, and Symon are coming too. Evidently, they helped pack up Naomi’s stuff.” I huff.

Alvie raises his eyebrow at me as I start pacing the space.

“And . . . ?”

“How much stuff are we talking about? Plus, Selene stopped responding to my texts,” I say. “She’s avoiding me. And it feels like she’s plotting.”

“That’s what she does, birdie.” He chuckles. “And it’s nice of the others to help out . . . no matter how much or how little there is to unpack.”

I glare at him.

“My plan was to have Naomi move out to the ranch. That’s what’s happening. Get on board and stop worrying your pretty head about things.”

I stare at him, open-mouthed. “Did you just?”

“Yes. I did, birdie,” he teases.

“Oh, I am so getting you back for that.”

“You sure about that?” he teases, rising from his workbench and prowling toward me until I’m trapped against another worktable.

My body starts to hum in anticipation as he crowds me in. Though he’s only four inches taller than me, I love how he still can make me feel small and protected.

“She requested BBQ for lunch,” I breathe out.

“Alright, I’ll run into town and grab stuff from Fort’s place,” he says leaning into me and running his hand up into my hair.

“Will he still be open?” I pant, loving how his touch sends electricity through my body.

“I’ll give him a call to check, but it’s only 11 a.m. He shouldn’t have run out by now.” he reasons. “Do you need anything before I leave?”

“Alvie,” I whine. “You keep doing this.”
