“Sorry boss… ummm... she’s there,” he pointed.

“Well done. I pay you well for your astute observation skills.”

Chapter

Seven

DANIELLA aka Layla

Itried not to laugh at one of the giants who I assumed was Cecco running into Antonio, but it was so funny, and it was clear as anything they had both been searching for me, Cecco edged away and crept out the door holding his head low, and Antonio faced me.

“We need to talk,” he told me in no uncertain terms.

Standing up from my seat, smiled at Denise and followed Antonio as he took the lead, making sure that I was close behind him as we walked through the house and into another room. I stepped inside and noticed that we had entered an office of some sort. There was a large wooden desk, a leather black swirl chair, black chairs opposite and an area of couches with a coffee table in the middle. Panelled walls, with a painting of a male, sat behind his desk. The far wall was littered with shelves filled with books, pictures, and other skull ornaments.

Turning to find Antonio standing surprisingly right behind me, our eyes met, and I froze on the spot. He then moved closer to the window where a drinks cabinet was situated and started making a drink. I waited for instructions, but he said nothing, just turned back around, walked over to me, and passed me a stunning embossed, clear tumbler glasses with amber fluid.

“Please take a seat,” he told me in that sexy gruff voice of his.

I didn’t reply, just stared at him as he walked around the desk to his chair and sat. I sat in one of the chairs facing the desk and stared at the amber liquid that filled the glass, I brought it up to my nose and inhaled the substance... Whiskey, it wasn’t one of my favourite drinks but didn’t dare tell my enemy.

He stared intently at me, not blinking, showing me exactly who the boss was, which made me shy down to glance at my feet, and my heart skipped a few beats. Not wanting to look too weak I lifted my gaze to him; his elbows were resting on the desk and his chin in his hands. When he noticed he had my attention he folded his arms and sat back in his chair. I couldn’t tell what game he was playing but either way, I had to know what was going to happen, so I spoke first.

“What did you wish to discuss with me?” I asked.

“I am trying to figure out what to do with you. You’re homeless, no money and no job?” he replied as he rubbed his chin.

“That is correct.”

“Who exactly are you running from?”

“A dickhead, he’s a very nasty man and tried to get me to do things I didn’t want to. Although if there was a queue for brains, they missed him.”

“I see, so what experience do you have, job wise?”

I just shrugged my shoulders; I had no idea what or if I could do anything after spending the majority of my life under house arrest, which had definitely not been fun.

“What have you done?”

“Erm… well… nothing really to scream about.”

“You’re not really helping me here, in order for me to find somewhere to put you, I need to know what you’ve had experience in.”

“Seriously, I’m not qualified for anything, I was a troubled teenager, in and out of care, always running away, and never attending school as I just couldn’t be bothered,” I explained.

Shit, I hoped he couldn’t tell I was lying his fottuto.

“Okay… well, how about cleaning, making beds?”

“I guess I could do that.”

“Good, now tell me again how you ended up in one of my cars?”

“I was running from the dickhead that was constantly following me, and saw the car, I tried the door and much to my surprise, it opened. I jumped in hiding behind the driver seat, making sure that I couldn’t be seen.”

Antonio just sat there, cocked his head to the side, then reached for his phone and dialled a number.

“Send me Denise please,” he told whoever, then ended the call and looked at me, “I need you to understand this, if I find out you have lied to me or if you try anything untoward, I will kill you and it will be a slow and painful death.”
