Lucas looks up at me. “She’s not in her room?”

“No. She’s not.” I climb down the stairs at a half-run, trying not to freak out.

“I haven’t seen her.” Dylan heads to the front door. “But I think she put chili in the crockpot.”

“She did.” Seth frowns. “I was going to make burgers tonight, but she used all the meat for the chili.”

“Don’t get crabby, she was just helping.” Lucas gets up. “But if she’s not in her room, and not down here, where is she?”

“Don’t go smoking yourself silly,” Seth calls after Dylan when he opens the front door. “You got plans tonight.” He points a finger at him.

Dylan grins. “Sure thing.” He winks as he steps outside.

Alexander brushes past him and steps inside, carrying one of his computer cases with him.

“Where were you?” I ask accusingly, fisting my hands on my hips.

He glowers. “Working.”

“You weren’t here this afternoon?” Since we all needed to be away from the house, he was supposed to be looking after her. He hadn’t said anything to me when I called to indicate that he needed to leave.

“She was taking a nap when I left. I was only gone an hour.” He checks his watch. “Yeah. An hour. Why, what’d she get into?” He looks around.

“Nothing.” I grimace and jog down the stairs. “I think I know where she is.”

Since Alexander was gone, she would have his computer room all to herself. We’d shut her down quick last night when she’d asked about getting online. Until we knew exactly what was going on with Vivian, we didn’t want Seraphina to have any contact with anyone on the outside. Right now, it’s better for Vivian to think Seraphina’s gone.

“My room?” Alexander’s voice booms as I head for the hallway leading to his area of the house.

“I’ll take care of it.” I put my hand up in the air to stop him from following me. We’d been damn clear with her about the rules around here. And staying off the internet was an important one.

I throw the door open once I reach Alexander’s security room.

She yelps, spinning in his chair. When she sees me, her eyes go wide. Her cheeks flush.

“What are you doing in here?” I ask, my voice demanding, as I step just inside. Before she can swipe away the screen, I cross the space and push her chair away from the desk.

She has three tabs open on the internet browser. Our company website, a google search screen, and a society blog announcing her engagement to Aaron Princeton.

“I was just checking to see if there was any news about me.” She tries to reach over me for the mouse, but I grab her hand with mine and lace our fingers together, holding her at my side while I switch to the google search screen.

“Seraphina.” I turn to her. “What were you looking up here?” I tap the screen.

“I wasn’t going to contact anyone.” She stares up at me with those wide, crystal-blue eyes. Her dark lashes brush across her cheeks when she looks down again.

“Why were you looking for the contact information on your father’s estate lawyer?” I ask, pointing to the google search.

“I promise, I was just looking,” she says emphatically.

I sigh. “Looking into us, that’s understandable, but this?” I point at the screen. “And your engagement?” I click out of the browsers. “Let’s go.”

“What? Why?” Panic rings in her voice as I lead her out of Alexander’s room.

“Ah, you found her, huh?” Carter brushes past me on his way to the stairs when we step into the main room. “I’m gonna lay down till dinner.” He yawns.

“He needs to get his head scanned again,” Seth says to Lucas. The head injury Carter suffered on our last mission as a unit has fucked with his sleep patterns. The man is always tired, but he pushes through best he can.

“Feel free to mention it to him,” Lucas offers. We both know how that will go over.
