It’s moments before my mind clears. Carter wipes his t-shirt over my pussy. Oliver pets my face, pushing my hair back.

“Shhh, lay down for a minute.” Oliver helps me to my side after Carter puts my pants back up. “You just rest until it’s time to leave.” He kisses my cheek. “Such a good girl.”

I let my eyelids flutter closed.

What did I just do? With both of them?

My entire body aches.

“Don’t go getting too caught up in her.” Carter’s voice dances from the corner of the hut.

“Course not. But she’s ours for right now.”

For right now.

Because that’s what I am.

Temporary.

CHAPTER 11

Alexander

“I don’t like it.” I toss the computer printout onto the table.

Lucas picks it up, reads over the data, and looks up at me. “Are you surprised?” he asks, dropping the paper. “She’s gotten her way, right? Seraphina’s gone, as far as she knows, and she’s playing it to her advantage.”

“She’s making the girl sound like some spoiled brat who ran away from her responsibilities.” She said other things, too, but if I recall them now, I’m gonna wanna go hunting tonight.

And we all agreed not to cause trouble.

“We stay clear of her until we hear back from Hunter.” Lucas pushes the paper away. “Don’t let Seraphina see that.”

“Is she still sleeping?” I look up at her bedroom door. She’s been napping since she got home from going to the store with Lucas.

“I set her phone alarm to go off soon. She’ll be down for dinner.” Lucas catches my eye. “You miss her or something?”

I frown. “Just didn’t see her today is all.” I head to the kitchen. Seth is making a pile of vegetables on the counter beside a package of Italian sausage.

“You don’t like seeing people,” Seth counters with a grunt “Remember? That’s why you’re back there in your damn cave instead of going out on jobs.”

“If you wanna handle the back end here, you’re more than welcome.” It’s an offer I’ve made before, and one he’ll never take me up on. Seth likes the physicality of training our security teams. If he had to give up the ability to fight someone on any given day in order to keep the IT shit handled, he’d probably blow up.

“Seraphina still napping?” Carter breezes past me on his way to the fridge. “I would have thought she’d be up by now.”

“Looks like Lucas kept her pretty busy this afternoon.” Oliver grins.

Lucas removes his reading glasses and puts the book he’s reading down to glare at us.

“I took her to the lake out back and let her swim. She was tired when we got back so I put her to bed.” He slips his glasses back on his nose. “As if it’s any of your fucking business, anyway.”

“Hmmm.” Carter laughs. “Just a swim in the lake?”

“Hey, guys.” Seraphina appears at the top of the stairs with a yawn on her lips and her arms stretched overhead. The little pink shirt she’s wearing rides up her stomach, showing off the small birthmark just above the elastic of the pajama bottoms.

“Going to bed already?” Dylan grabs a beer from the fridge and pops it open.

“No.” She shakes her head, her cheeks flushing a little from all of our eyes on her.
