At last they reached the next to last level. This one was set up quite differently from the others, Lili noticed. Instead of being filled with art or artifacts, there was a large, round, padded platform in the center of the room. It was white and looked like it might be covered in some kind of velvet.

Around the perimeter of the room there were many empty black pedestals. Lili wondered if this level was in a state of transition. Maybe the empty pedestals would soon be filled with art to exhibit.

“This is our own art,” f’loon announced, surprising her. They pointed to the empty pedestals with one long tentacle.

“Oh, uh…” Lili wanted to say something nice, but what could she say? Did f’loon mean the pedestals themselves were their art? Because they looked completely ordinary—nothing special at all.

“Would you like to see it?” f’loon asked in their soft, androgynous voice.

“Well, sure!” Lili said brightly. Even if f’loon asked her to look at empty pedestals, she would be polite about it. That was how she had been raised.

Dark, however, hadn’t had her upbringing.

“What the fuck is there to see?” he demanded, frowning. “I don’t see anything but a bunch of empty platforms!”

“That is because we have not yet displayed our art for you,” f’loon murmured. They nodded at their spouse and es’plendio reached across the room with one long, branch-like arm and pressed a silver button mounted on the wall.

At once, a solid-looking hologram flickered into life above each black pedestal. Some were as big as Lili’s whole body while others were smaller than her hand. Also, some of the holograms were in black and white and some were vividly colored, but all of them had one thing in common.

“Hey,” Dark growled, peering around the room. “These are all people fucking!”

“They are indeed—our art is all about capturing the true essence of love. We enjoy seeing the ways in which different species fit together,” f’loon agreed softly.

“Well that’s…so interesting. And, uh, beautiful!” Lili added, smiling as hard as she could.

To be honest, she was a little bit taken aback. None of the other art on display in The Golden Tower was so overtly sexual. And many of the holograms looked like hard core porn. They weren’t just sweet, artistic depictions of lovemaking—there were a lot of close-up shots of “the pole going into the hole” as her friend Rachel jokingly called it.

It was interesting to see all the ways that different alien species had sex though. On one pedestal she saw what looked like two purple giraffe like creatures mating. Their long necks were entwined and the male creature had a long, tentacle-like cock that was making sweeping motions in and out of a moist slit in the female creature’s belly.

On another pedestal, two holographic blobs seemed to be melting into each other. To Lili, it looked like the opposite of the way amoebas divided.

“Hey, look Light,” she heard Dark say from across the room. “I always wondered how Finsters fucked! Look—the male has a kind of wheel between his legs instead of a cock! And he’s just kind of rolling it inside the female’s pussy.”

“That does answer a lot of questions,” Light remarked.

“This is a beautiful display,” Lili said to f’loon, trying to sound like she meant it. “What about the space in the middle though?” she asked, pointing to the broad, circular platform covered in white velvet. “Do you choose a special image to display there?”

“Why no—of course not.” f’loon shook their head. “The bed in the center is for procreation. We enjoy implanting our eggs, which es’plendio has fertilized, into a willing womb while being surrounded by our art.”

“Oh, uh, how special,” Lili said, trying to smile.

“Yes, it will be very special between the three of us,” f’loon agreed.

“The three of you?” Lili frowned. “I’m not sure I know what you mean. Do you have another, er, spouse or mate here besides es’plendio?

“We do indeed, we have you,” f’loon gestured at her with one gray and white tentacle. “And we cannot wait to implant our eggs in you.”

Lili didn’t know what to say. She didn’t want to offend the esteemed art collector, but she certainly didn’t want to have their eggs implanted in her womb either!

“Er…I think there must be some mistake,” she said uncertainly. “I never agreed to let you, um, implant anything in me.”

“Certainly you did,” f’loon argued in their soft, androgynous voice. “When you wrote to us, asking to visit The Golden Tower. Coming to see our private collection is a rare and valuable opportunity. We thought you understood that there must be payment in kind.”

“But…but looking at an art collection—no matter how rare and valuable it is—doesn’t equate with letting you implant your eggs in me!” Lili protested.
