“She’s just worried about a friend. I need to look into some things when we get back, and then I need to pay her a visit.”

“What do you need to check into?” I ask, wondering if we can do everything before we go home.

“I need her old class list, from when she was at Goldcrest. Her friend who’s missing had a few guys on the hook that she ghosted before she disappeared. I need to work out who they were so Secret can I.D. them, and we can talk to them.”

“Call Toshi,” I tell Spencer. “He can do that from the apartment and email files to Secret’s email.”

Spencer gets out his phone and turns away as he starts to talk to Toshi.

“Sorry for rushing away like that,” Leanne tells me. “I didn’t mean to. It’s just …”

“It’s okay. I know.”

She would do anything for her daughter. I knew that the moment I figured out who Secret really was to her. I don’t blame her for being worried.

Spencer, on the other hand, is beginning to grate on my nerves.

He assumed it was my fault Leanne left.

Granted, I thought the same thing, but I’m supposed to be hard on myself. It’s the only way I can make sure I don’t end up repeating past mistakes.

I knew things were degrading between us, but I didn’t think they were this bad.

He barely trusts me to do anything right.

“Thanks,” Leanne says. “I was freaking out. I wasn’t thinking.”

“I’m glad Secret’s okay. Hopefully, her friend is, too.”

She nods. “I hope so, too. I asked Secret to let me know if she hears from Beth. She’s checking her socials, but I haven’t heard anything yet.”

“Well, we can get Toshi looking for that class list. Is there anything else we should be looking for?”

“No, but one of the guys isn’t from her class. He just works at the dessert stand in the mall.”

“Do you have a name?”

She shakes her head slowly. “Unfortunately, Beth tends to talk about these guys by their job titles. She never told Secret his name, but she did say he was over six feet tall.”

It’s not much, but it’s something.

Spencer turns back to us, hanging up his phone. “Toshi’s looking into it now. We can text him the email address to send it to.”

“I’ll double check it,” Leanne murmurs, going through her purse and bringing out her phone. She checks the email address and Spencer passes her his phone.

“Message is open, you just need to type it in. Send yourself a text, too. I want to know we can reach you when we need to. I’ll send you everyone else’s number.”

She does what he asks and passes the phone back.

Spencer sends her Echo and Toshi’s numbers and puts his phone into his pocket.

Leanne checks hers and raises an eyebrow at me. “Do you seriously not have a cell phone?”

“I have one I use for work.”

“He never has it on him,” Spencer says, rolling his eyes. “I think he’s only ever used it once.”

“Well, at least start charging it and carrying it around with you,” she tells me.
