I raise my eyebrows at him. “I’m not waiting out here.”

He nods after a second, and I follow him into the hallway.

Marcus stands by the door with his head down.

It feels like he’s a venomous snake, waiting for his moment to strike.

“Show us,” E.A. demands.

Marcus shakes his head. “I didn’t mean to hurt her …”

Oh, God. My stomach is churning madly, now.

If he’s actually hurt her, I think I might throw up.

“Show us!” E.A. snaps at him.

He moves back shaking his head.

“I didn’t mean it!” he sobs, tugging at his hair.

I can’t wait another second. I bolt past E.A., darting up the stairs.

“Beth!” I call out as I run. “Beth, can you hear me?”

I don’t hear any response, but my own heartbeat sounds so loud it’s all I can make out.

I stumble on the top step and straighten up before I run toward the door to the room.

My whole body feels like it’s shaking as I push the door open. I glance down the hall to see E.A. coming toward me, a concerned expression on his face.

“Leanne, you shouldn’t …” he starts as he gets to my side.

“I have to,” I cut him off, stepping into the room and looking around.

I don’t see Beth. She’s not in here.

Frowning, I look around slowly, eventually noticing something flickering in the cracked open closet.

Wait. What the hell was that?

I move closer and pull open the door.

The small TV screen is on and showing some kind of weird, old fashioned looking show.

Why is there a TV inside the closet?

I hear a soft sound, and that’s when I discover Beth.

Pushing back the clothes that are hanging up, I see Secret’s friend, gagged and wearing wireless headphones, hands bound to the handles of a deck chair.

“Beth!” I gasp out, pulling the other door open.

She moans, and I take the headphones off her head, tossing them to the floor.

The gag is tight. It takes a few seconds to get it untied and off.

“Finally,” Beth rasps, her voice hoarse.
