It’s been consuming me for a third of my life.

I’m ready to let it go.

Chapter Eighty-Four

Echo

Instinctively, I reach out to shake Spencer awake when the sound of the apartment door wakes me up. He groans and rolls over, moving out of easy reach. This bed is way too big. I’d thought the Super King size was a smart move at the time, considering I have two Alphas who occasionally sleep in the same bed with me, but it’s awfully empty when it’s just me and Spencer.

“Didn’t you hear that?” I whisper.

“Mmm,” he murmurs, clearly not listening.

I definitely heard the apartment door, and I think I can hear voices.

Sounds like Toshi’s back, but the other voice is too soft to hear.

Has to be Leanne. There’s no way he would have come back without her.

E.A. on the other hand …

His behavior can be a bit unpredictable when he’s not in his usual routines.

He’s not usually super comfortable in new places, so when he told Spencer he was staying at Leanne’s place with her, we were both kind of stunned.

I guess we should have expected it.

She’s his mate, too, and now that’s official.

Sending Toshi to collect them was a dumb move.

I already felt the chemistry between Leanne and Toshi.

It was inevitable that he’d end up staying, too.

She’s not wasting any time in claiming her mates.

I get out of bed and go into the bathroom to run the shower.

I want to be cleaned up and ready when my new mate decides to claim me.

I’m close to my next heat, but it hasn’t hit me yet. It would be amazing if all my mates were on board for it.

E.A. and Spencer’s friendship might be on shaky ground right now, but I know they can put their differences aside when it matters. I’ve been hoping and praying they’ll see what they’re screwing up if they can’t just accept each other a bit more.

I take my time cleaning up, and when I pull the shower curtain back, I find Spencer leaning against the cabinets in front of the sink, covering a yawn with one hand.

“I thought you were dead to the world,” I admit.

“It just took me a second to move. Why’d you wake me up, anyway?” He raises an eyebrow. “And why would you rush into the shower instead of waiting for me?”

“I think Toshi and Leanne are back.”

He shrugs, his gaze following me as I step out of the bath onto the mat and start drying myself off.

“Clearly, Leanne is an early riser like E.A. Is it really a surprise that they’ve come back?”

“No,” I admit. “Part of me expected that, and it’s really not the point.”
