He might not like me, but he likes the thought of the money I’ll bring him.

“I’m not afraid of you,” I tell him. “You’re not going to kill me.”

“Oh, I am,” he says. “Just not right now. Not with this gun. I’m going to kill you by pieces. Letting one of my most vicious clients buy you so he can spend months or years torturing you until you’re desperate for the release of death. When it finally comes, you’ll want it.”

I shake my head. “Not this time, Harlan.”

He frowns before the taser Victor produced slowly and quietly from one of his many pockets hits him in the back with a high voltage jolt that makes him shake and jerk around.

He drops his gun, as he curses as if he has a stutter, before attempting to lunge at me.

I move back and he falls, face first onto the floor.

“Well, that was fun,” Victor says. “But we should probably get the hell out of here before his lackeys show up to check on him, or whatever.”

“If we’re leaving, we’re taking him with us.” I tell Victor. “You’d better check if he was lying about the parking garage.”

“Right,” he says, tossing me a second pair of handcuffs. “Behind his back. I’ll call Seth.”

I catch the cuffs and put them on our captive.

“You’re going away for a long damn time, you asshole.”

He’s passed out so he can’t hear me, but I don’t care.

I make the cuffs tight.

It’s time he got a taste of his own medicine.

Chapter One Hundred One

Leanne

Seth and Corbin are waiting for us in the parking garage, along with my purse full of evidence and the lackey we already sent them. Seth raises an eyebrow at me as I take my foot off Harlan’s ass.

“You did it,” Seth says. “Thank God. Secret would have killed me if this shit didn’t work out.”

“She might still kill you,” I tell him. “I don’t think we should take these guys to the police.”

Seth takes his phone out of his pocket, looks at the number and hands it to me.

“Spencer,” he tells me.

I answer the call. “It’s Leanne. I’m out. Everything’s good.”

“You really had us worried,” Spencer says, sighing. “Where are you now? We’ll come and get you.”

“I’m with Seth, and some of his … team. I’m heading back home now. You don’t have to come get me.”

“We’ll meet you halfway,” he insists, before he hangs up.

I pass the phone back to Seth.

“So, what’s the plan?” Victor asks as he drags Harlan out of the elevator.

He looks from Seth to me, and I raise an eyebrow at Seth.

“Don’t look at me. I thought you were going in there for evidence collection, not bad guy round-up.”
