“If you don’t want to involve the cops, we can take care of it,” Corbin says, as casually as if he’s suggesting a place for dinner. He cracks his knuckles, and then his neck. “It’s pretty easy to make scumbags disappear.”

I expect to feel a little conflicted about the offer, but the truth is, I don’t.

Honestly, it’s good to know that’s an option with these guys.

Because if all else fails, that’s what it’s going to come down to.

“Let’s backburner that idea for now,” I tell him. “I think we should lock them up someplace for a while until we can check through the jars. We need to know what we’ve got before we can work out the best way to deal with Harlan.”

Victor rolls Harlan onto his front and checks his pockets.

He pulls out everything he finds, and Corbin produces a plastic baggie from his pocket, holding it open for Victor to dump Harlan’s phone, lighter, second firearm, wallet and who knows what else into. He does the same thing with the other guy and then Victor nods at Corbin.

“We can handle their incarceration. You two can check that stuff over and let us know the rest of the plan once you have it.”

Corbin steps over to the back of the closest Jeep and opens the trunk.

He tosses the unconscious men inside as if they’re weightless.

I look at Seth and he shrugs.

“They know what they’re doing,” Seth says.

“I can see that.” I just need to figure out the rest of the plan. I nod at Victor. “We’ll call you in a bit.”

They get into the Jeep and leave the garage.

I hold onto my purse tightly, knowing it contains really important evidence and we’re about to walk back out onto a busy city street. It would be typical if today was the day I got mugged, but I doubt that’ll happen while I’m walking around with someone who looks like Seth.

Thank goodness for big, tall Alphas with those scary, growly, fighter vibes.

We head for the pedestrian exit, walking side by side.

“So?” he asks, giving me an expectant look.

“What?” I ask, wondering if he said something else and I didn’t notice because I was lost in thought.

“So, did you figure out why you had to do all this?”

“It was worth it, wasn’t it?” I ask.

“I guess we’ll find out,” he mutters.

That’s the thing. We might have a trafficker in our hands, but if we just kill him all we’ll be doing is delaying the inevitable. Another shitty person will take his place and the cycle will go on. We need the clients, as well as the trafficker, and that’s the hardest part.

Even Victor Hayes couldn’t get names out of his family when he shopped them to the police as a kid.

He stopped them from hurting anyone else, but another asshole would have popped up to keep supplying Omegas to the Alphas who’ll pay anything to hurt them.

We step out of the garage into the bright midday sun.

“Right. I’m calling Secret before she goes insane,” Seth says, taking his phone out.

He makes the call and I hear her voice on the other line. “Seth! What happened? Where are you? Is Leanne okay?”

I can’t help but wince. She sounds so frantic.

“Leanne’s safe,” Seth says. “And we got what we came for.”
