Spencer puts on a pair of gloves and passes out the jars.

I kiss E.A.’s cheek before I sit back down, ready to get to work.

He smiles at me as he sits down next to Echo.

Echo rolls his chair closer and hugs his arm for a few seconds before he moves back.

“Okay,” Echo says. “Next?”

E.A. pulls the next ribbon from the jar and starts to give Echo the details.

I look at Secret. “Do you want to describe the items or write the list?”

“List,” she says quickly. “List writing is definitely my thing.”

I don’t blame her. This is evidence of a crime we’re handling.

I put on the gloves and open the jar Spencer put in front of us.

The sooner we get this done, the better.

Chapter One Hundred Eight

E.A.

An hour passes in a blur of color and details. Toshi and Ryan pass each completed list back marked up with client details and potential victim names and print outs. The pile of addresses to be passed along to our extraction teams is growing, and we have at least a dozen victims who can be identified without doubt by their personal item.

I should be elated. I got the evidence I’ve been looking for, and it looks like we’re going to be able to give a lot of families closure as well as hopefully being able to save a few dozen women from their captors.

Yet, all I can think about is my mother.

How she loved to sing as she did things around the house.

The way she would happily sit by my side for hours while I played with blocks or did puzzles.

Things I haven’t thought about in years are rushing through my mind now, making me sad about all the things I’ll never get to do because she’s gone.

She would have loved Leanne. I’m sure of that.

She would have loved all my mates.

I wish she could have gotten the chance to meet them.

“That’s the last list,” Seth says, as he takes it to Toshi in Spencer’s office.

I blink slowly. “We’ve gone through all of the jars?”

Leanne nods. “Looks like it. We’re almost ready for the next step.”

“We have thirty addresses for extraction so far,” Toshi calls out.

“Holy crap,” Secret murmurs. “That’s a lot.”

“It is,” Leanne says. “There are a lot of sickos out there.”

“There will be a lot less of them when we’re through,” Echo reminds them.

I get up and go over to Spencer’s office door.
