“If you’d like to hit me …” I offer, opening my crossed arms.

I can take a punch as well as the next Alpha.

I would take as many as she needed to give if it would convince her to stay.

“I’m past that response,” she says. “I need to know what the plan is. Every detail.”

“You’ll do it?”

“I’ve already accepted that job, and now I’m accepting this one,” she says.

“Good.” I look at Echo. “Get me the master file on Anchor West.”

My Omega nods, heading for the filing cabinet room that’s locked behind the reception desk.

I move back and gesture to Leanne to join me in the office.

“You’ll need to watch a rather lengthy tape recording that was taken by a cleaner’s cart we were able to bug. It’ll show you how to get to Harlan’s office, and what it looks like inside.”

Spencer steps into the office after her, and I give him a look.

“This is for Leanne’s benefit.”

“I’m not leaving her alone with you,” he mutters, shaking his head.

“Anyone would think you don’t trust me.”

He stares at me in response.

Message received.

The trust between us is lost.

I’m sure he’ll change his mind about that eventually, but this afternoon it isn’t worth worrying over.

We don’t always see eye to eye. We never really will. Both of us know that.

“Sit down where you want to sit,” I tell them.

They take the interviewee side of the desk.

Spencer looks out at Toshi. “Get in here. We should all be together on this.”

Oh, great. He’s turning it into a free-for-all.

I don’t grudge Toshi’s involvement, but it seems excessive to have him watch a two-hour long tape that’s really only for Leanne’s benefit.

“Fine, whatever,” Toshi grumbles.

“Put the phone on answer-machine,” I remind him.

He rolls his eyes as he goes back to take care of that.

When it’s done, he looks up at me. “Anything else, oh great and mighty Alpha?”

“Actually, yes. Lock the front door. We don’t want any walk-ins while we’re working on this.”

He sighs before he shuffles off to do what I’ve asked.
