I just have to remember it.

Chapter Thirty

E.A.

Toshi sits at Echo’s desk, muttering randomly before he answers our phone calls and generally complaining under his breath the whole time he’s there. I want to know when our brothers are back, so I don’t close the office door on his complaints. Toshi refused to keep tailing Leanne after she caught him out, and at this point it probably doesn’t matter. She’s going to come back here with Echo and Spencer, and she’s going to tell me she’ll take the job.

I can see every step of how my plan is going to unfold.

She’s the key to capturing Harlan West once and for all.

I knew that from the moment I first heard her name on the news.

Before I even knew who she was, or what she’d been through.

Long before I knew she’d been offered a job at Anchor West.

She’s the last piece of the puzzle.

A woman Harlan will be too tempted by to ignore.

A mate none of our pack can live without.

She’s everything to all of us, even if she doesn’t understand that yet.

She’ll realize soon enough, and she’ll become a part of our lives, intertwined deeply.

“Shit,” Toshi says, loud enough to be properly heard.

“What is it?” I call out.

I hear him getting up, scraping the chair back and making so much damn noise I can barely stand it.

A second later he appears in my doorway. “They’re back. Can I leave?”

“You have someplace to be?” I ask, making him sigh.

“No, but …” he trails off when his gaze drifts to the right.

I hear them walking in. He couldn’t make a quick escape now even if he wanted to.

“Never mind,” he says, stepping away from the door.

I get up and move around the desk, not wanting to miss anything.

“Meet our new assistant,” Spencer says, giving a rueful smile that tightens when his gaze falls on me.

He isn’t happy about this inevitable development. I can’t say I’m surprised.

“I’m sorry I hit you,” Leanne tells Toshi, who perks up instantly. “I was angry at this guy.”

She gestures to me, and Toshi nods.

“I completely understand.”

She stares at me, and I get the impression something inside her has hardened, despite her sudden change of heart. She’s not emotional right now. She’s focused.

The nervous energy she had before is completely gone.
