Page 48 of Loving Gabe

I leave for a few seconds to let the doctor know that Aubrey is awake. Then, I get back to her side. I do no want to leave her side right now.

They check her vitals and go over everything. She squeezes my hand when they say they are going to take the tube out.

“I won’t leave the room, but they need space to work,” I tell her.

I hate watching what she has to go through. It’s so hard to see the panicked look in her eyes while they take the tube out, but I know it needs to get done. I’m just so glad she woke up.

Once they get everything done they need to do, they tell her that she should refrain from talking for a while. Her throat will be tender and raw.

She’s on a diet of liquids and soft foods until she heals.

“We will get through this,” I tell her after sitting back down beside her.

Aubrey

I wake up with a tube down my throat. My whole body hurts and I have a splitting headache. Once the nurses remove the tube from my throat, my throat feels like it’s on fire.

As hard as it will be to eat only liquids and soft foods, I will do it since I do not want to prolong recovery.

I had heard Gabe’s words before he noticed I was awake.

The man was completely vulnerable and crying for me. I don’t know what to make of it.

I thought I was the only one of us who felt that strongly. I guess this proves my feelings are returned.

When I realised there was a fire, I thought I would never get to tell him how much I love him.

Sure, sometimes I am not happy, but relationships are hard. Communication is important, and I haven’t been telling him how lonely I have been.

I will do better to communicate to him though; just like my parents had suggested.

I want this relationship to work badly enough.

It doesn’t take long for my family to stop by; everyone except Hudson. I hear that my family are still trying to get a hold of him. I know he will freak out when he finds out what happened to me.

My mom is full of tears when she sees me, and she hugs me through sobs. The sight brings tears to my eyes.

Gabe tells them all that the doctor told me not to talk. “I’ll get her a writing pad and pen until we get her a new phone,” Chase tells me.

I give him a questioning look about my phone.

“After the firefighters saved you, they couldn’t control the flames on the house. The house is gone, along with everything inside it,” he tells me with a sad smile.

“Well, everything that wasn’t in the fireproof safe,” my dad tells me.

I figured. My parents keep everything important in their safe. It is ridiculously big, and we always gave them crap about it, but I guess that worked in our favour since that’s where our family heirlooms are kept.

Chase leaves for a few minutes to talk on the phone. I assume he’s making a call to get me a new phone.

They all visit me for about an hour before Gabe shoos them out and tells them I need rest.

I smile softly and point to him.

“Oh, I’m not going anywhere, baby. You will be lucky if you get me to ever leave your sight again,” he tells me.

There is a cot pulled into the room. I guess that’s one of the perks of being in a rich family. I already know they pulled strings to get me this large room with plenty of room for a cot.

Honestly, I’m glad Gabe isn’t going anywhere. I don’t want to be apart from him right now anyways.
