Page 5 of Loving Gabe

I had overheard a conversation he was having with his friends about how he was with me because my brothers were rich and he wanted to climb higher on the social ladder.

Everyone knew who my brothers were since they were in the headlines a lot for being eligible bachelors. They certainly had no shortage of women who wanted to be with them, that’s for sure. That also put a lot of people in my life who only wanted to be my friend to get close to my brothers. I was tired of being used, and I didn’t know who to trust anymore.

I should have known better and that it was too good to be true. He wasn’t the first person to use me to get closer to my brothers or the money that our family is worth.

He was too sweet and fake. I saw right through him. I didn’t want to be right and decided to give him a chance, but now I can see I was completely wrong about all of that. Other than being hot, he didn’t have much going for him. If my brothers had heard what he did, they wouldn’t have hesitated to make his life hell.

That doesn’t mean that Kalen has stopped trying to get me back by saying what I heard wasn’t true and that he was just talking big in front of his friends. I don’t believe that for a second. Maybe if we had some sort of chemistry, I would be more broken up about it. Instead, I’m just update that Kalen was just yet another person in my life I couldn’t trust.

The only person I can trust is my best friend, Christina. She and I were roommates, and we were both sad that I was moving home after the holidays. It will be okay though. I still plan to visit her a lot.

I know she would never betray me. Besides her, my family is the only other ones I trust. She has proved herself to me many times over the years that she isn’t interested in being my friend for esteem or money.

I was expecting my brothers when I walked out of the baggage area, but what I saw instead made my heart jump a bit. It also made me wish that I would have checked my appearance before I came out but, since he just spotted me, I can’t turn around now.

Gabriel Lewis stood there in his expensive suit with his hands in his pockets and a smirk on his face. He knows how good he looks.

I let out a sigh mentally at seeing the perfection that is Gabriel.

He has been Chase’s friend for as long as I could remember. His family wasn’t much of a family. His mom and dad were complete deadbeat parents. They had tried to come around when he started making his money, but he shut that down right away. They didn’t care about him until he was worth millions, and then billions, so he gave them some money and then cut them off completely. That was far more than they deserved if you ask me.

Gabe is a lot taller than me. He is six-foot-four, and I am five-foot-six. He has short brown hair that is a tad longer on the top.

I know what kind of body he’s hiding underneath those clothes thanks to the last summer in Hawaii where I got to see him in just swimming trunks.

I had always had a crush on him. When I grew up, the crush just grew from there. He was always completely hot to me, no matter if he was the awkward teen or the hotshot of a man he grew up to be. He has a drop-dead gorgeous body that I know he works hard for.

“Gabe,” I breathe out once I walk up to him. The smirk on his face only grows. He definitely knows the effect he has on me.

“Aubrey, you look good,” he says as he quickly looks me over and then adverts his eyes.

“Thank you,” I say with a light blush on my face.

“What do you say we get out of here? You got any more bags?” he asks as he grabs my bag from my hand. I shake my head and follow him out the door.

“So, what are you doing here? I thought Chase or Dylan was supposed to pick me up,” I ask as we walk to Gabe’s SUV.

“Your brothers got held up in meetings out of town, so they said that you would be with me for a couple days,” he says. He doesn’t sound very happy about it.

“If it’s a problem, I can just rent a hotel. I don’t know why they didn’t. It’s not like you guys are hurting for the money,” I say with my own smirk.

He lets out a chuckle as we reach his vehicle and he opens the back door to put my stuff in. I see his bags and a few groceries in the back.

When I give him a questioning look, he chuckles.

“Well, we may not be hurting to get you a room, but you know that your brothers wouldn’t like you being alone at a hotel this close to the holidays, and your parents won’t be back from their cruise for a few days either. It’s no trouble, but we will be staying at my cabin. I hope you packed warm clothes.”

Shit, I forgot that my parents went on a last-minute cruise for their anniversary. Still, it would have been nice to have the house to myself.

I climb in the passenger seat and give him a look. “Of course I packed warm clothes. Only you, my parents, and Chase are crazy enough to stay in this cold state.”

“It’s not that bad,” he says before laughing at the look that appears on my face.

“Yeah, but you have to layer up when you leave the house. It’s cold. I’m glad I’m living in a warmer place,” I say as I put my hands in front of the heater even though I wasn’t outside that long.

“It may be warmer, but I couldn’t imagine the holidays without snow. Don’t deny it; I know you agree too,” he says with a grin.

I shrug. “While that may be true, I never stay here longer than I need too.”
