Dylan looks at me in confusion. “Everything alright?”

“I’m fine,” I say walking into my office.

“Greg, bring me a coffee please,” I tell him over my shoulder.

Dylan follows me and takes a seat in front of my desk.

“You are not fine. Tell me what’s going on,” he says.

I sigh and rub a hand over my face. “I think I’m losing Aubrey,” I mutter. Fuck, saying the words out loud makes it feel even worse.

He sits up straight. “What do you mean? I thought you guys were doing great?”

“She had a friend over and, after she went to bed, I saw what she wrote when responding to him. She was lonely before, but now I am smothering her. Nothing I do seems to be right,” I admit to him.

“Look, I will be the first to admit I wasn’t exactly happy when you two got together, but you guys are perfect for one another. Anyone with eyes can see that,” he says.

“Something tells me she doesn’t feel that way,” I tell him.

“What are you doing to do?” he asks.

“I’m going to work so that I don’t smother her,” I say while starting my computer.

“Just talk to her,” he says.

I nod my head, but that must not be good enough for him because he lets out a sigh before getting up and walking to the door.

“Communication is important. It needs to go both ways. It sounds like you both need to work on that,” he says just before he leaves.

Greg drops my coffee off without a word and then heads back to his desk.

I’ve never been the best at communication. I honestly don’t know how to go about starting a conversation like that.

The only thing I do know is that I have to do whatever it takes to make this work.

Chapter Sixteen

Aubrey

I don’t know what’s going on with Gabe, but he has been pretty distant lately. He went from spending every waking moment by my side to going to work and coming home in time for supper.

The thing is that I know him. I can tell which of his smiles are fake and which ones are real. Lately, they have all been fake.

Something is bothering him, and I wish we could talk about it. Once I am able to talk comfortably, I think he and I need to have a long conversation.

I shake the thoughts from my head the moment Christina, Greg, and Quinn walk into the penthouse. They had decided I needed some bestie time, so we are spending the day together.

They all made sure not to have any plans for today. When I told Gabe about them coming over, he said he was going to see my brothers with a light kiss.

Heck, I hadn’t felt passion from his kisses in days. That’s how I know something is wrong.

“You are looking better,” Quinn says walking over and giving me a kiss on the cheek.

“We brought all the delicious soft foods we could find. We are all only eating soft foods today, since it would be mean to have other delicious food right in front of you that you can’t eat,” Greg says while putting down a bunch of takeout containers.

I smile at them in gratitude. It’s nice to have friends that are so thoughtful. I would have been completely jealous smelling all these delicious foods I couldn’t eat if they had brought their own alternatives.

“So how are your hot bosses?” Quinn asks Greg, waggling his eyebrows.
